Lessons-Learned

First and foremost: I should NEVER post when I'm in a snit.  (That's polite language for being seriously and extremely pissed off.)  The back-story is this:  I turned the teevee off just as soon as the puck went in the net during the OT; I didn't even wait for the replay or the second playing of Chelsea Dagger on the night (I NEVER want to hear that fucking song again, ever), or the handshake line.  There are just some things you DON'T want to see or hear when you're trying to restrain yourself from throwing the nearest heavy object through yer teevee screen.  This bears mentioning, too: I certainly didn't want to hear the asinine commentary by the NBC SportsNetwork crew, who deserve a big "fuck you," as well.  I'm not the only one who feels that way, either.

That said, posting in anger reveals one's true feelings and state of mind, I suppose.  We make no apologies for the intent and content of last night's post, only for the not-so-gratuitous use of the f-bomb.  Yet there are times when an f-bomb and only an f-bomb will do.  Further: I'm NOT a good loser, if you haven't figured that out by now.  That's prolly the only thing Vince Lombardi and I have in common.

Second:  Some people have learned their lessons well.  I got a call just after 2200 hrs last evening from DIL Erma, letting me know she'll be in town today and would I be available to drink a couple o' beers this afternoon?  (Not sayin' THAT'S a dumb question, but...)  It came to pass that she and SN1 spoke just after the game ended last evening wherein Buck advised her to "give him a few minutes before you call."  Smart move, that.  While we're on the subject... He was just as pissed as I was; I suppose this sort of thing runs in the family.

We'll get over this.  It's gonna bite and burn for a while but it's only the second round... it's not like we lost Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals.  I'm still not over THAT.

  1. RE: lost Game Seven
Remember that well, was in a bar with The WSO and her new squadron mates down in Va Beach. (She had just joined VFA-32 that very day!) Game was on the TV over the bar. We were displeased at the outcome.

Heh. You wouldn't have wanted to be in my general vicinity for the last minute of that game. Ug-LEEEE.

  2. Funny there's that reaction to the NBC guys. I've had such a hard time watching any red wings games with the volume on because the NBC commentators have such an exaggerated love for them. Howard makes "another fantastic save," while the other goalie "fought another one off." Red Wings deliver "devastating body checks," while other teams "make contact along the boards." You have to be at least a semi-neutral observer to notice these things.

That being said, they always get the drool-cup out for the winners. Those commentators are whores as pure as can be, and are unbearably gracious to whoever winds up winning. I can certainly understand your complaint.

I think that's key. I'm semi-neutral as far as the other series I've watched this year, with a couple of exceptions. I watched Pittsburgh's previous two series in the fervent hope they would lose -- I noticed the NBC guys were SERIOUSLY in the tank for the Flightless Birds. The Islanders were a great story this year but as far as NBC was concerned? ALL Pittsburgh, all the time, and it was the much same thing during the Ottawa series. It was kinda-sorta the same thing for the Toronto - Boston series.

That said, Versus-cum-NBC HAS gotten better over the course of the last two years... or at least they're better than they used to be, which ain't saying a whole helluva lot. Emrick is pretty good when it comes to the play-by-play stuff and I like Dave Strader a lot, too. But I WOULD like Strader, since I remember him from the ol' Channel 50 days in Dee-troit. ;-)

My bottom line, though? I really, rilly miss ESPN's hockey coverage. And I also wish I could get the CBC feed on any and all games; those guys are the BEST.

    1. Like I said: I hope the Kings sweep the 'Hawks. And then I hope Boston sweeps the Kings. ;-)

    1. You're much more in touch with the minor leagues than I am, Glenn.
