Furl the Flag

Season over.  The Wings took it about as far as could be reasonably expected in this season of rebuilding and adversity.  But to lose... in overtime... in Game Seven in your opponent's barn is a little bit much to take.  We shall furl the flag and await next year.

Just repeat the mantra, Buck:  "It's only a game, it's only a game."  Well, no... it's not.  Hockey is life played out on a small stage and it's THAT important.

So.  Next year, Wings.  And fuck you, Chicago.  I hope you get swept in the conference final.  You deserve nothing more and nothing less.

  1. About the only good thing about this is, now I can watch the playoffs without having my insides tied in knots.
I cannot really enjoy the Blackhawks success because I have had it in for the Wirtz family (mostly Bill) for blackballing a NHL expansion team in Milwaukee.

    1. I hear ya about stress-free hockey from here on out, jon. It's SUCH a different experience when you're not emotionally invested.

  2. I heard a rumor the Wings were thinking of moving to Tennessee. Anything to that :)

    Next year for sure!

    1. Heh. They ARE moving to the Eastern Conference next season, so there's that. I'm gonna miss bein' in the Cenral Division, which is the NHL's toughest. OTOH, it'll be easier to make the playoffs. ;-)

  4. Well, you know I was rooting for a Wings - B's final, Buck. I felt some pain for you last night, believe me.

(Still nothing as exciting in all of sports as a game 7 overtime in the NHL. Nothing.)

    1. Thanks, Jim. I hear ya about Game Sevens... it's just too bad the Wings had to lose on a bad bounce.

  5. Gee, I wish I could say that "I feel your pain," Buck, but it's more like: EAT YOUR LIVER! :)

Srsly, I feared for your health, glad to see you "up & kickin.' But all power to the Wings--they improved over the season and over-performed, while my Hawks have mostly underperformed throughout the whole play-off series. The Blues played consistently tough and even throughout their entire series with the Kings and still lost--I'm not holding my breath for my Hawks to win out, although A'hm 'a hopen.'

    1. Why, how gracious you are in victory! ;-)

As I said above, I'll miss the Central Division next year. The 'Hawks are a relatively young team, so the renewal of the rivalry would have been white hot. Alas... not to be.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
