Yum! (And Other Thangs)

Apropos o' everythang, this:

I say that coz we're off to ABQ tomorrow to spend time with DIL#1 and fam'bly.  Mayhap I could talk her into having dinner at El Pinto while I get a half-bag o' chiles, roasted especially fer ME...

―:☺:―

We were gonna take off and go to ABQ this past weekend but I was held hostage by the USPS.  That's coz SN1's birthday is tomorrow and I was waiting for Godot... err... a shipment o' cee-gars from cigar.com that never arrived... until yesterday.  I had ordered a box o' SN1's favorite smokes, half o' which I intended to re-ship to him for his birthday.  But those kind and oh-so-efficient folks at the post office decided it would be a Good Thang to send my shipment to Puerto Rico, the upshot o' which was I didn't actually receive said shipment until yesterday, when it was far, far too late to re-ship.  But we had a Plan B, whereby we contacted the ever-helpful Tim at cigar.com and got him to ship directly to SN1 at his Undisclosed LocationTM in the desert.  Then I find out from SN1 that he's gonna go off on a TDY to yet another Undisclosed LocationTM on his birthday, which is tomorrow.

You just can't win sometimes.  But I guess his birthday present will be waiting for him when he returns early next week.  And then we should see a photo like this:

SN1 at Kandahar, in the near wayback.

Hopefully.

In other news... we made a Command Decision: we're gonna go the implant route on our upcoming Adventures In Modern Dentistry, Part Deux.  We briefly flirted with getting a partial plate... at half the cost of implants... as an option, but we decided against that and are goin' to go the full-implant route.  I just don't wanna mess with false teeth and all the hassle that option involves.  It's a "quality o' life" decision and one that I HOPE I'll live to appreciate, which might could be problematic given my advanced age.  But, Hey!  Whatevah.  Ribs and corn on the cob will be viable options in future, dontcha know.  The launch date for our latest AiMD is set for 09/06/2012, when we'll lose six teeth in preparation for the follow-on implants and stuff.  But his latest adventure should only take a maximum of 45~60 days, or so I'm told... not like the two year journey o' times past.  We takes what we gets.

  1. Yeah, I found that the implant thing went pretty quick and wasn't nearly as discomforting as expected. The worst of it was waiting for the healing process to end so the rest could be done.

H.B. to SN1. August is a crowded month for birthdays.

    1. I hear ya on the first. The wait was interminable the first time around; not so this time, or so I've been told.

  2. I hope that's a real 'Brau, not a "NA."

I zoomed in as far as I could, but can't read that red qualifier under SN1's left middle finger. It looks like a foreign (to me) translation, but it had better not say "NA" or some such hooey.

Don't care much about the cigar, but he seems to be digging it.

Yay on the implants! I was gonna expand on why I say "yay," but it has made me misty. So go on a cruise, or road trip, or whatever when this ordeal is over.

    1. What Phil said... the joy of GO #1. A good cigar is a joy to have at the end of a hard day. And thanks for the kind words on the upcoming ordeal.

  3. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news you but it reads "Alkoholfrei" (NA) if SN1 gets a chance he should go to one of the NATO units, (for example ISAF in Kabul) they can fix him up with the real thing. Hope he gets to enjoy his cigars and his beverage soon. At best at home with the family.

    1. He's not in Kandahar now, Phil. Rumor has it that one can have alcohol, in limited quantities, where he's spending this year's tour. As noted above, I hope to have photographic proof in the near future.

  4. And yet another item I miss so dearly from my beloved homeland. They don't even grow a decent Chile in PA much less roast those puppies!! That some of the best times in ABQ when I lived there was when the Roasting stations sprang all around the city. You could buy a gunny sack full of Chile's and have them roasted while you wait. The smell was to die for. Not so much in the Amish lands though.

BT: Jimmy T sends (from the CZ, still).

    1. I hear ya about chile in the NE, Jimmy. It was unobtanium in western New Yawk when I lived there, unless you had it shipped in.

  5. The Oracle would be in 7th heaven re' the roasted chiles. Not me however; I can't even be near food that is that spicy - the aroma alone will set my asthma off. Seriously. It's ridiculous actually but it's one of the many joys of being me.

    1. Wow. I'm so sorry about that, Kris. Really. I'd die if I couldn't have my chiles, in all forms. Great chile is one of the reasons I choose to live where I do.

  6. Good decision, Buck. As My Dad always told me, "Buy quality when you can afford it. It will make you happier, and actually cost you less in the long run."

  7. Get a whole bag of roasted chilies and divide them up into little freezer bags. They freeze well and can be taken out as needed. The peel comes off easier after the freezing too.

Happy birthday to SN1 and tell Erma hello for us as you enjoy El Pinto. I'm green with envy - for green chilies.

    1. We're gonna do just that: buy a bag and then freeze 'em. Erma already suggested that, so it's a classic case o' "great minds." And she sez "Hi!" back.

  8. They've been roasting chiles at my supermarket lately. Nice.

Pepper is in the midst of the "healing process" right now, and he hates the bridge with the falsies on it because it rubs. I think you both made the right decision about the implants. Good luck!

    1. Isn't the aroma of roasting chiles just wonderful? Give Pepper my regards and condolences. I relate.
