Good Stuff In the Mail This Morning

First, from My Buddy Ed In Florida... Tech Support:

Heh.  OK, it's a stereotype but it's cute.  That said, SOME of us superannuated types don't need no tech support, thank ya.

Occasional Correspondent Lin sends along the following for us Anglophiles...

Once again, cute.  But I wouldn't have one of those Mini thangs if you GAVE me one.   Reason:  it's a front-driver and Daddy don't do no FWD.

And now it's time to hit the shower, and then the road!

  1. Have fun... we're on the road, too.
I can even hear Dionne Warwick:
"Do you know the way to san jose?
I've been away so long. I may go wrong and lose my way.
Do you know the way to san jose?
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in san jose."

Doubt that with Friday traffic there'll be much peace of mind. Probably more like give some piece of mind.

  2. I have seen the Tech support thang all over the internet lately - it is cute.

I would have a Mini in less than a minute. Love 'em.

    1. I had a friend in the wayback who owned one of the original Minis and that thang was fun. Of a sort. ;-)

  3. A Mini just got utterly smoked in a head-on hit and run collision with an SUV in my neighborhood last night. It's engine wound up on the sidewalk across the street. The driver walked away.

    1. That's the best testimonial about those things I've ever heard. Srsly.

  4. The ORIGINAL 60s Mini-Cooper S-type w. full blower was hell-on-wheels to drive, (I loved the version with the big multiple circular Rayllee lights across the front roof-line and two more on the front bumper inboard of the headlights) but the modern version is but a shadow of its former muscular self..

And, Buck, you'd re-evaluate your disdain for front-wheel drive if you regularly drove in heavy ice & snow, lol.--but, say...you lived in Mich, after all, so how come how come you're immume to the fw drive's snow & ice handling charms?

    1. I'm immune to FWD's supposed "charms" because I owned a front-driver (a SAAB 9000) when I lived in Michigan... for a while. Let me say this about that: I'd NEVER thrown a car away in snow and ice before I had that SAAB, which I lost on three... count 'em: THREE... occasions. You can save a RWD car when ya lose it, but if ya lose a FWD car you're gonna go for a ride, to wit: where ever that car and physics decide to take you. FWD is the BIGGEST automotive scam ever perpetuated on the American public. EVER. It's cheaper to BUILD FWD cars, but it ain't cheaper to DRIVE 'em. They suck.

      I HATE the dastardly things.

  5. PS: The technique to great cornering technique w. a FWD car in ice & snow is to hit the breaks w. one foot while simultaneously giving it the gas w. the other as turning..

    1. Yeah, right. With all due respect, Virgil: you can't tell me a gotdamned thang I don't already know about front-drivers. To reiterate: they suck.

    2. LOL, Buck, considering your SAAB experiences I guess I don't have much room to give advise. :) But in a way you and I aren't really that far apart. I'd sum up by saying that you're right, you can recover RWD vehicles, but when a FWD car loses it it's agone goose for sure.OTOH FWD vehicles are harder to "break loose" in the 1st place, imo, than RWD vehicles--so I guess I'd characterize RWD cars as being more "testy" on ice as compared to the more sure-footed RWD animals, but once that RWD animal breaks, ye Gods!

[BTW, I was really just jerking your chain about FWD vehicles--just wanted to poke& prod my local "Desert Rat" to see how he'd respond...getting testy in our old age are we?--at least when it comes to cars, lol)
      :)]

    5. Well, OK. Now that we've made ourselves perfectly clear... ;-)

  6. My wife wants a Mini so bad. Thankfully we're too broke to seriously consider it.

O/T: Air Force should stick to dropping bombs on bad guys.

  8. My FWD Toyota has a hydroplane warning light that tells me to ease up. Darn car is smarter than I am. Perhaps that's not saying very muich.
