... is mostly Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. Well... all of it, in fact, but more Kate than Joni. We know that Ms. Bush is... umm... an "acquired taste," but I acquired my taste for the lovely Kate about 30 years ago, back in Former Happy Days when we lived in her native land. That taste has never left me and we pull her albums out every so often just for the joy that's in it. And, truth be told, to recall Former Happy Days... because we're like that. So here are a couple o' items from today's soundtrack...
I could have been anyone.
You could have been anyone's dream.
Why did you have to choose our moment?
Why did you have to make me feel that?
Why did you make it so unreal?
Oh! To be in love,
And never get out again.
Oh! To be in love,
And never get out again.
Oh! To be in love,
And never get out again.
I don't think Kate thought that one through... mainly because there just MIGHT could be a time when one would want to "get out again." Just sayin', yanno?
And then there's this about that:
"If I only could, I'd be running up that hill.I sure do love this woman. I mean, aside from bein' oh-so-lovely, she touches me in places few others can. Of course there's also the fact her music was once a shared experience with someone near and dear. But let's not go there... any more than we already have.
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill."
It doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.
And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...
You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.
There's a quite pleasing live video of Running up that Hill with the guy that gave her her first step up in the music biz, David Gilmour.
ReplyDelete... and the 2nd favorited video in my youtube collection.

In Tv interviews, I've often though she's one of the most pleasant people to interview, just so un-full of herself. ...
Thanks for the link, Marc. I particularly enjoyed reading the comments there. Well, MOST of 'em. ;-)
DeleteNothing wrong with wallowing in nostalgia every now and then.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't get obsessed, which some people have cautioned me about. Rightly so, too.
DeleteLoves me some Kate Bush. I find I need to be in the proper mood for her but when the mood strikes, it must be Kate or nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'm always overjoyed to hear her, Kris... especially on those RARE times it's unexpected.
DeleteAin't it funny how music can do that, take you back to another time? I don't know much about Bush and never really listened to any of her stuff, but I got into her odd lilting sound and the lyrics you posted. And, on the basis of your selections, I'll be working on acquiring that taste you speak of. Thanks for introducing me to Bush.
ReplyDeleteShe really IS good, Dan. I'm glad you like her.
DeleteI liked the second song better than the first. Maybe it is my hearing - ears are not what they used to be. But I definitely have to be in the mood for some songs.
