Yup

Ain't technology GRAND?  I agree with most everything in the above video and use most of the services therein (or have at least tried them), with the exception of Facebook (I deactivated my account months ago) and Flickr (which I just don't see the need for).

The one thing that shocked me?  Boston College not giving out e-mail addresses.  E-mail may be passė in some circles, but it's still an essential communication tool for most of us.  Then again, one would imagine incoming freshmen already have e-mail anyway... so I can understand why BC wouldn't want to spend the money.  Infrastructure ain't cheap.

Memory, on the other hand, most certainly IS cheap these days.  Witness:

That's a screen-shot from one of those Amazon love letters we all get.  I've gone on the record as spending about three hunnert Yankee Dollars for my first hard drive in the way-back.  All ten megabytes of it.  Yup... technology IS grand, innit?

  1. Yup again. Just today, Older Daughter found a seamstress to alter her wedding gown via a Facebook request to her "friends."

    'Nuff said.

I still like Facebook, but I think I'm going to have to clean house of some of the friends who do all that Mafia stuff -- they take up too much update space.

Heh -- my verification word is "roppers."

  2. Amazing timing on your post. This kind of stuff is pretty much my job. All those stats get thrown at me almost daily x 10! I should do a post filling you all in on the future which is even more amazing. Huge props Sir Timothy Berners Lee & CERN. Well..to a degree..there are days when I wish it would all just go away. Even if Im wishing away my living.

  6. Moogie: It was PRECISELY all that useless krep (see: Mafia) that drove me off Facebook.

Alison: re: props. You forgot Al Gore!! How could you? :D

And yeah... I wanna see your post about Coming Attractions. I used to be fairly well dialed-in when I was still employed, but that's not the case these days. Not at ALL.

Mr. Webb: My last two computers didn't even come with floppy drives. I'm thinking it's a supply/demand thing, right?

  10. Crysti: It took me FOREVER to get to you on Twitter... their search function was down, but I finally went to your blog and clicked your Twitter icon. "We have ways..." LOL!
