Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

The gospel, according to St. John...

God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No."
Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but...
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Abe say "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God say "Out on Highway 61."
Apologies to Mr. Zimmerman... but St. John does it SO much better.  It's that slide, Bob... the slide.

  1. Think I've mentioned it here before in another context, but I've driven the real HWY 61 a ton of times to and from my home in Illinois to Baton Rouge before the Interstate was completed. Not to be missed are picturesque Canton's town square (where numerous movies have been shot to inclu Missippi Burning and Port Gibson "the city too beautiful to burn" according to US Grant with its TOTALLY UNIQUE Church gold spire top/cap at the Wilmot United Church (hand emerging/resting from/on globe/ball/sphere w. forefinger pointing to the Heavens/God--Google its photo!) The route thru town takes one right by it.

    1. I googled "Port Gibson Wilmot United Church" and saw the hand of God, but NOT one resting on a globe/ball/whatever. The hand I saw was on top of a rather ordinary looking spire. That said, yup... you HAVE mentioned Highway 61 a time or two. Then again, I've posted the tune a time or two, too.

    2. Heh, I wrote from memory, then googled, proving once again that this geezers's memory is more than fallible. Even with gun to head I would have sworn it was resting on a golden sphere--and I've passed by that Church many a time..

And, yes, the spire is "ordinary" (but this does not mean "ugly")but I've never seen a hand like that anywhere before or since. You must admit a rather unique and unexpected adornment, n'cest-ce pas?

  2. Although that is a fun song, it is a bit wild when I'm listening to your Happy Hour soundtrack at 6:30 AM.

    2. Yes, Johnny is rather, how shall we say, intense, isn't he? :)

  3. Good song!

New verse could be; ..."The music of Bieber and new talent's done
Turns off the old fans, 'bout everyone
Switchin' to Tube of You by the lovin' ton
diggin on ol' Bob's tune Highway 61"

Alright, I'll go back to my hole in the water.
