Let's all celebrate winter...

On second thought, all y'all can celebrate it... I'd rather NOT.

From the Usual Source of these thangs.

  1. Bad memories...

But, the bathing suit dude jumping on to the frozen pond made me snort. Really.

    1. There were a few snorts in there for me, too.

  2. But think of all the quality time in Swedish saunas, Buck, with the fair maidens applying some good S&M to your back with those birch branches. :) Of course in your neck o' the woods I guess they'd be sweat-lodges sans the fair maidens & birch branches, no? lol.

    1. Yeah, I think you're right about the Swedish sauna vs. sweat lodges. Neither appeal to me.

  3. That video made me relive again the helpless feeling when the devices that allow you to control the automobile (steering wheel, brakes, accelerator) are all completely useless and you're at the mercy of the forces of momentum and gravity and you're praying for the appearance of a little friction. I once did a 360 on an icy road at low speed (maybe 25mph) in a big 1965 Catalina. I have no idea how it happened. Luckily, I didn't hit anything.

    1. I've been there and done that too, Dan. More times than I'd like to think about, actually, but I always managed to save the situation... except for twice in that gotdamned SAAB I owned for a few years in Dee-troit. There was no damage either time; I just ended up in a snowbank.

  4. You know all those people in those sliding, spinning vehicles felt as if time had stopped for them. I did a back-and-forth on a busy highway one morning - bouncing in between guardrails. It's a serious miracle that I only hit the rails and not any of the cars. Got a scalp laceration and concussion for my troubles and a seriously damaged car that was about 5 months old.

    1. Ouch. As I said to Dan, I've been there... except for the major damage and injury.

  5. In my many winters on this planet I have witnessed many of the things seen in that video. A few I have participated in, not voluntarily of course. When the "weather outside is frightful", that's when this Old AF Sarge stays home and has a second cup of coffee.

Dan's comment of being at the mercy of physics while sitting in a perfectly functional automobile? Been there, done that and NEVER want to do it again.

    1. I've said this often about our winters on THPoNM: we have just enough snow and cold stuff to remind me why it is I don't live Up Nawth any longer.

  6. That opening scene was deja vu. What a helpless feeling! And some of those falls - been there done that. I remember one time after I fell on ice, I just scooted on my butt until I could get to a dry place to stand up. And the inner tubes - I've been mowed down by those, too. Yep, I don't miss any of those thangs.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
