Hype

Weren't Apple's launches always overhyped?  I suppose the Fanbois love this stuff, but normal people don't.

―:☺:―

Not hype... the time change is kicking my ass.  I didn't roll out until after 1300 hrs today, which is late even for me.  I'm about halfway in to my second cup and haven't worked my way through the overnight mail yet.  But the good news is the WX is fine (75 degrees!  Yowza!) and it stays light out until well after 1800 hrs.  That means we'll not miss any of the usual, customary, and reasonable verandah time.

In other news... Flo and I are back together.  Long-time Gentle Readers might remember this from last August:

I Just Got Off the Phone...

... with Flo.  We had a short and VERY pleasing conversation, at least as far as I'm concerned.  Which went something like this:
Flo:  How can I help you today, Mr. Pennington?
Me:  I need to cancel my policy, please.

Flo:  Oh, I'm sorry to hear that... may I ask why you're cancelling?

Me:  Because you wouldn't give me your preferential rate due to bogus "bad credit" information.  I'm with USAA now.
And that was pretty much that, except for minor details.  USAA is charging me MUCH less than half the amount Progressive was bending me over for.  I smiled broadly throughout the entire conversation.

"Discount!"

::/Chirpy Flo voice::
Well... I called up USAA a short while ago to get insurance on El Casa Móvil De Pennington, seein' as how my current policy runs out tomorrow and I KNOW USAA can do better for me when it comes to rates.  So imagine my surprise when the helpful USAA person transferred me to Progressive, which does RV insurance for USAA.  But I was pleased at the quoted rate, which was less than half of my current RV policy.

So:  Me and Flo.  True Love.  Renewed.

    1. But Erin is a cartoon character... and Flo's prolly a better swimmer, based on visible lung capacity.

  3. You probably got a discount from Progressive on the Movile De Pennington because they thought you were a hippy liberal. Had they any idea of how you lean in regards to Duh One, you would probably be paying triple. They are quite the liberal company, hence the name.

    1. Yeah, I know Progressive's founder gives Big Money to lotsa causes and candidates I don't. That kinda grates. But then there's Flo. The Saving Grace.

  4. For some reason the time change has not bothered me much this spring. It's this dang upholstery class that has my butt over the fence. I don't get home until 11 PM - for a country girl, that is late. But you are right, the weather has been great.

    1. I hear ya about "late." When I was working 2300 hrs was late for me, too... mainly coz 0400 came EARLY.

  5. A serious note, here, Buck. I always thought that USAA rates were low due to a preferred client base. Theoretically they shouldn't be wanting to "pollute" their preferred low-risk base with the higher-risk gen. pop (as rep by clients of Progressive) I'm wondering if the fact that the bulk of USAAs client base (WWII) is rapidly dying off and the shrunken base is comprised of so few RV owners that the risk pool would be too small and admin overhead costs too large (for size of base) for USAA to keep it all in-house. Ideas?

    1. I have no clue about the demographics of RV owners, Virg, other than personal experience. My experience is the typical (if there's such a thang) RV owner... at least those I met in RV parks... are fairly well-off, older, and often retired couples. But then again, I DID meet a few low-lifes during my time on the road, but they were few and far between. It takes a good bit o' money and a fair amount of expertise to do the "full-time" gig, so I would assume those folks would fall in the low-risk category.

There's my $0.02. How that affects USAA's client base is unknown to me.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
