Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

We're just in from a very brief stint on the verandah and it's jes a wee bit too chilly to enjoy ourselves out there.  So it's back to The Great Indoors, where we shall continue as we've begun.  We managed about four songs while we were outside, chief among them this:

Let's get it on, baby
This minute, oh yeah
Let's get it on
Please, let's get it on
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, baby
Stop beatin' 'round the bush
Oh, gonna get it on
Heh.  Ol' Marvin just might have single-handedly created a mini Baby Boom with this tune.  I don't think there was a single solitary bachelor who didn't own this song back in 1973... or young married guys, either, coz seduction doesn't end with the wedding... in most cases.  I certainly had a copy of the song, in any event.  And I think I put it to good use, even though some o' my wimmen friends just laughed when Marvin started in... with words to the effect of "Oh, BUCK.  Not that again..."

You can't please all o' the people all o' the time.

  1. 1973 was a bit young for me to be seduced. Besides, I never listened to the words of songs back then. It would have gone right over my head.

  2. While Pam and I are working, I like to listen to Talk Radio. But, she always wins out with Oldies 95.7.

I really don't mind so much, and it keeps her happy.

When this Marvin classic starts, it's hard for either of us to just work, and not sing along. Sometimes it's her...sometimes it's me. But, honestly we've never made it through the song without one of us giving in.

And to Lou...I find it hard to believe that the lyrics of "Let's Get It On" would have gone over your head. Not that I'm calling you a liar or anything...probably just failing memory. Nyuk...

  3. Definitely funky.

And is it just me, or do the sexually charged lyrics seem kinda tame (read subtle) by today's measure?

  4. Lou: I'm kinda-sorta with Andy. How could you NOT "hear" the lyrics to this tune?

Andy: I like to sing along with Marvin, too. Except I usually "modify" the lyrics to other purposes. I'm weird like that.

Dan: "Let's Get It On" is Pablum to hip-hop's red meat. RAW red meat. Some of the lyrics of today's "hits" I've read make me wonder quite seriously about this generation and their tastes, not to mention our future.

    So sez The Geezer.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
