One of Those Days

Just a few minutes ago...

We've been under a high wind warning all day.  From the NWS in ABQ:
A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this evening.

* Location... Central Mountain ranges from the sandias and manzanos southward to the south central mountains eastward to the Texas state line. This includes the I-40 corridor from Tijeras Canyon eastward... the east Central Plains and Chaves County.

* Winds... sustained from the southwest at 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 60 to 70 mph. The higher peaks will likely experience even stronger gusts.
I don't think we got any gusts over 50 mph but we HAVE experienced enough wind to put a significant amount of dust in the air.  It was warm today as well...with a high of about 86 degrees... so we broke the seal on the AC.  Dang!  It feels almost like summer.

  1. It does make for great sunsets, that last for 2 hours or so. And with enough dust in the air, it'll make for a great sunrise too.

And if you're in the corner of a winning hockey team...
Bleacher Report is saying another few weeks of hockey for you Buck.

We had a beautiful day here, except for the winds. Our "wind advisory" is in effect until 7PM tomorrow - along with temp of 82 & severe storms tomorrow. Today's temp was 78 & we had yellow (pollen) in the air rather than plain old dust. ;-)

The icky part is that the high on Tuesday will be in the 50's again.

  3. Spent some time taking pix of the sunset tonight too. There was a distinct smell of smoke in the air. Someone told me there were fires down Ruidoso way.

  4. We are having the same high, horrible winds here. It has been yuck here all day, and I'm about tired of it.

Brad, I saw some photos from Ruidoso and there is a big fire there.

Heh. I rarely see a sunrise these days, unless it's from the wrong side. By that I mean "Oh, sunrise. Time to go to bed!"

Katy: You get today's WX tomorrow... our high today is forecast as 56. We had a low of 31 this morning.

Brad: I noticed the smoky smell, as well. The Ruidoso fire is pretty big... 5K acres last time I looked.

Lou: I'm pretty danged tired of the winds, too. And it's COLD today!

  6. Pretty sunset. We had record highs in Iowa on Sunday too, but storms came with it, so our sunset consisted of lightning. :(

Strange weather all over this past year - what does it mean?

  7. Red: It wasn't very pretty standing out in all that wind and dust to take the pic, lemmee tell ya. But: no lightning. Yet. As for the meaning of the WX... I think you should give Sheik al-Gore a call. He knows. ;-)

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
