We're doin' 'em and we are NOT a Happy Camper. TurboTax is the source of my angst because I can NOT find my 2009 TurboTax files and believe me, Gentle Reader, I've spent waaaay too damned much time looking for what appears to be non-existent files. I happen to be one of the most anal-retentive people in the world when it comes to file retention and I KNOW I saved last year's tax files. I can find all my archived tax returns going back to the year 2000, but all I can find for last year is a PDF of my 2009 return... which means I've had to bypass TurboTax's auto-import feature and re-key most of my data. I say most because the "import from Quicken" function still works as advertised. Thanks for the small favor, Intuit.
Re-entering data isn't really any Big Deal, it's just time consuming and SHOULD be unnecessary if the goddamned application worked like it was supposed to, right?
Beer me. Right now!
Pen and forms from the library weren't that long ago. But yeah, that import from last year is a real time saver.
ReplyDeleteCus word for you in the word verification: SHTINCEN!
Toby is doing taxes too. And he is not a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteI use TurboTax and it imported my info. I guess I should be glad... sort of, at least till I have to pay the reaper.
ReplyDeleteThis year the Fed took less from each paycheck, under the advice from Mrs. Obama. All because it made "sense" to have a few extra each paycheck. What that ended up doing is meaning I have to pay a bit more this year on my taxes.
I don't mind having the taxes being close to a zero gain or slight pay. I do think the worst thing that had happened was payroll taxes being taken out rather than paying them with a check. People who don't see the money in their hands don't quite get the same impact that writing out that check for taxes has.
Didn't you have a computer meltdown earlier this year? Is it possible it was lost in the crash?
ReplyDeleteWe are waiting for the Accountant to give us the bad news. Seems a little easier to swallow when it's delivered over the phone - keeps us at a slight distance to the inhumanity of it all.
ReplyDeleteFiling: married withholding at higher single rate. We will pay this year, I'm sure of it. Grotesque.
That's what happens when you have 2 incomes with no children.
Bob: Thanks for the vocabulary assist!
ReplyDeleteLou: Yeah, I don't know ANYONE who gets a smile on their face from doin' taxes.
Anon: I think withholding is a good idea in this country, mainly because most people spend every dime they make. The gub'mint would be prosecuting one HELLA lot more people come tax time if there was no withholding. How many people do you know that could write a check for anywhere between two and 20 thousand (or more) dollars?
Matt: That was last year, but it WAS after tax time. That's a possibility, but I back-up my entire hard drive religiously. The files should have been recreated when I did the restore.
Kris: Ah, the glories of bein' a DINK. I remember those days.
I do them by hand, always have. I don't trust electronics when it comes to the government, never will. But, I can understand the wanting of more ease, which I assume TT mostly provides (excluding the above complaint.)
