Slow Day In the Political Cartoon Biz

Gimmee a freakin' break, puh-leeze.  Can't you just hear JFK sayin' "Ich bin ein Facebooker?"  One wonders... can you raise camels in Farmville?

  1. It would be "Ich bin, like, ein Facebooker, totally, dude. Lol."

  2. LoL, Buck and Moogie!

Perhaps the "reedom" letters in the cartoon should have been in the Google colors:

"We think that Ghonim’s desire to thank Mark Zuckerberg in person seems like a great marketing opportunity for both companies, and would also help promote any book that the activist might actually write based on recent events in Egypt. The former would certainly jibe with Ghonim’s intention of returning his focus to his day job.

Readers, what do you think about this set of developments?"

    Good grief.

  3. There's no denying the impact and the roles social media had on the events in Egypt, but I smell a LOT of marketing in the post-demonstration developments. There's a reason dictators shut down the internet when things begin to go south for them. I emphasize INTERNET for a reason... there's Twitter, e-mail, distribution lists, and other forums, as well.

  4. The thing about Facebook is that it can and has been used against those who use it.

People have lost their jobs for what they posted on there. Not to even get into the partner/spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend/buddies that have had their relationships end due to stupid things posted.

Now think about how a regime would be using that information. It may be that it gives a "free" voice, but it doesn't mean those "freedom" posts will come without consequences.

Freedom isn't about free speech when the rest isn't free. Also, its a data mining operation. There are companies that absolutely love facebook as it gives them so much targeted information on the users of it.

  7. We live in interesting times, Alison. I think the Army taking over in Egypt was the best option out of a bunch of bad choices.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
