I've been following the tragedy down in Tucson today and am horrified not just at the shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords but at the reaction from some of the usual suspects. Like this:
No links; you can find these on your own if you have a mind to do such a thing; slogging through the Fever Swamps ain't everyone's cuppa. I am disgusted but not surprised.
My best thoughts go out to Congresswoman Giffords, her family, and the families of all the other victims of this senseless tragedy.
Prayers from both me and the gang at PHJ and F.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the suspect is a basket case, for lack of a better term.
The congresswoman is known as upright and decent person.
I got tired of Shepard Smith being a twit on the coverage. I will wait for things to shake out as a result of the investigation.
Agreed on all counts. I've appreciated the commentary and comments on Anchoress' blog today.
ReplyDeleteHer whole family is a list of achievers, and what I've read so far about the mass murderer, was how ignorant he was.
ReplyDeleteShe was brave to step up and serve, and I take great pride in all who do.
Blessing to the two who tackled the guy and ended his rampage.
I hope the kids parents will drink antifreeze tonight. They have to know they conceived a true devil.
Glenn: I tuned out the wall to wall coverage after a while, as well.
ReplyDeleteBec: Agree with you, re: Anchoress. She is consistently good about everything.
Anon: Agree with most of your points, except the last.
In re the deafening narrative, there's this from politico.com:
ReplyDeleteOne veteran Democratic operative, who blames overheated rhetoric for the shooting, said President Barack Obama should carefully but forcefully do what his predecessor (Clinton) did.
“They need to deftly pin this on the tea partiers,” said the Democrat. “Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on the militia and anti-government people.”
Another Democratic strategist said the similarity is that Tucson and Oklahoma City both “take place in a climate of bitter and virulent rhetoric against the government and Democrats.”
There's a surprise.
Et aussi, in re the "Climate of Violence" meme...
ReplyDelete** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
** Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”
This is a horrible, horrible tragedy for all concerned. Like all here, I suspect, my heart breaks for the victims and their families.
The glee with which the "media" has leapt to blame any and all opponents of the far left has victimized these innocents all over again, and is enough to gag a goat. It's notable that the "usual suspects" are the same ones who loudly shreiked Fairness And Temperance after the Ft. Hood massacre.
Disgusting.
All valid points, Rob. I've YET to read a conservative blogger... or hear ANY conservative... say "she had it coming." It's all been condolences and such on the Right Side o' the 'sphere. As it should be.
ReplyDeleteGod the Left are full of hate. What a time to make political capitol.
ReplyDeleteIt has all been so disgusting. This isn't political and yet, immediately, the MSM starts ranting that it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's OK for Obama to use gun analogies, and for Clinton to sidle up to the "right side" to gain political points. It's OK for the Dems to use the bullseye and gun imagery for their 2004 campaigns.
It's NOT OK for Republicans to do the same thing.
Frankly, it's not right for either side.
What sickens me is that the left is making political hey out of a senseless, horrific tragedy caused by a clearly mentally unstable man with no particular political interests.
Alison: That shit began almost immediately, too.
ReplyDeleteKris: It just keeps getting worse, too. There are TONS of point-counterpoint stories on memeorandum today.
I am not from the Left.
ReplyDeleteI am not from the Right.
But this whole blame game is the most disgusting abuse of power and the blame game must stop.
I am disgusted with everyone about this whole tragedy.
