It Must Really Suck...

If a lifetime can be likened to a day, then this is Happy Hour!
My mother said to never go out with a man who owns a red car. What did she know!
ReplyDeleteI'd have let him rub his pee-pee all over me with that collection...
Buck, the Dean of the Univ. of Louisville's Dental School used to live across the alley from us (our garages backed out into the central block alley-way) in Old Louisville (a guy by the name of *PENNINGTON* btw) and he owned TWO (2) 1953 Gull-Wings--a white one and a dark navy-blue one. LOL! (Was originally from Iowa, IIRC)
ReplyDeleteFWIW, did you ever get to see the collection in the basement garage at Harrah's in Reno? I caught it in Dec., 1966 when on vacation during plt tng. I had flown out to Mather AFB in Sacramento to spend Christmas with my then fiance who was daughter of a Col stationed there whom I'd 1st met when she was at Ohio State when I was in ROTC summer camp at Lockbourne AFB outside Columbus where her father was then stationed. They had a ski lodge at Incline Village in Tahoe (only a short scoot from Sacramento) so were taking a break from the slopes to hit the tables. They had penny slots in those days and she hit the jack-pot ($30.00 lol) w. the very 1st penny she put in! We were on the houses money from there on in. she hit one more and I took the $60 and ran it up to $1500 at the craps tables, but she wanted to play black-jack and like a fool I let her--lost it all. C'est la vie. Easy come.. But we DID get to see a helluva free midnight floor-show in the Penthouse night-club. Petula Clark was the feature at the height of her fame. Ah youthful memories..

Anon: Heh!
ReplyDeleteVirgil: You've told me about the Dean before... and I was envious then, too.
The Harrah Collection has been moved into what's now called the National Auto Museum and it's still in Reno. I've posted some pics of the place in the way-back, which might have been when you first told me about the Dental Dean.
And you're oh-so-right about youthful memories, LOL. Easy come, indeed.
Anon: That was a good duet and my French is still good enough to understand that PC was playing the gold-digger. But "C'est Si Bon" BELONGED to Eartha Kitt.

ReplyDeleteOh my yes! No contest.
Buck, if you think YOU"RE tired of hearing my re-cycled geezer war stories you should talk to my wife! :) It's only been 38 yrs of it for her...talk about justifiable homicide! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnon: You're my kinda folks. ;-)
ReplyDeleteVirg: I didn't say I was tired of your stories, only that you'd mentioned the SLs before. I think "tired" comes after the fifth or sixth time... ;-)
Buck - several years ago Mr. Lauren let 30 of the cars go on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. We were lucky enough to be invited to a members-only preview.
ReplyDeleteIt was crazy. The Ferrari's alone were worth spending hours viewing, let alone the Benz's, Lamborghini and other assorted goodies.
The exhibit was very up-close-and-personal too. Just a small rope between you and the automobile. You could really get up close and see enormous details on cars that most of us will only see in pictures.
You were indeed lucky, Kris. I'd have liked to been at that preview...
