Missions

Ya learn something everyday… and today I learned that Tacos ain't just good eatin'…

Tacos are also on the endangered list.  Here's an excerpt from KOB.com… Channel Four in Albuquerque… that supports the above video clip:

The Tacos, the New Mexico Air National Guard 150th Fighter Wing, is ramping up their search for a new mission as the Air Force looks at clipping their wings.

[...]

The fighter wing is searching for a mission that would save its nearly 1,000 jobs even if it means switching from fighting missions to something like recon missions.

If you watch the clip you'll note the piece mentions an alternate mission for the 150th Fighter Wing… flying the COIN version of the T-6 Texan II.  There's just one small problem with that… USAF doesn't fly or own any AT-6s.  While it IS true USAF released a Request For Information (RFI) for a new "light fighter" this past July… and the AT-6 would be a favorite in any procurement resulting from the RFI… we ain't quite there yet. Unless the 150th knows something the rest of us doesn't.

Short post this morning.  I'm headed out on a mission (heh) to The Big(ger) City™ in a few to take Miss Zukiko in for her first appointment with her motocologist.  It pains me… greatly… to admit this, but the appointment is for her first service.  She'll be two years old in about two weeks and I've just now hit the requisite 600-mile service point.  But… as noted below… there have been extenuating circumstances which we hope to rectify in the coming weeks.  As in: more miles o' smiles.

Update, later that same morning:

Miss Zukiko in the motocologist's waiting room.

Miss Z on the exam table, nervously awaiting the Good Doctor's arrival.

She was worried for no reason; everything went splendidly and she's in good health.  VERY good health.  We ran her up to redline for the first time... several times... on the way back from The Big(ger) City™ and I'm pleased as punch.  This girl just wants to par-tay!

Dang.  We're most certainly scraping the bottom o' the blogging barrel, we are.

  2. Buck,
The same thing happened to one of the PA Air National Guard units that flew out of the Willow Grove Joint Reserve Base not far from here. They flew A-10's and the Air Force wanted them back to upgrade them to the "Charlie" version and they did not give them anything in return. So, they had to switch to flying C-130's in a pure cargo mission. Funny how that all works, there was a law suit brought by the State against the Air Force, the Won and Lost at the same time. Seems the People belong to the State but the Aircraft belong to the parent military arm. So, they can call back their gear if they want.

And, good luck with the Bike, looks like a fun ride!!
