Inside North Korea

So... I was surfing around last evening and came upon a 14-part series of video clips entitled "The Vice Guide to North Korea" and I was absolutely fascinated. One sees very little about the north side of the DMZ, so when you come across a fairly lengthy documentary (conveniently split into 14 parts for easy viewing... for those of us with mild cases of ADD), you watch it. Each clip is embeddable, too. Here's episode 12, "The Schoolchildren's Palace," to whet your appetite, Gentle Reader.

This series probably isn't everyone's cuppa. But I found it fascinating
, as noted above.

  1. Buck, the top picture says volumes. Just how well does communism or socialism work, the lights tell the whole story. That will be us in a few years under the current regime, I fear.

  2. Rumor has it Rumsfeld had that pic on his office wall in the Pentagon. I think it's just such a statement about communism... pure and simple.

That said, I think we have a LONG way to go before we get to that point, if ever.

And on another note: How 'bout your Flyers!?!

  3. I was up on the border there for about ten months. The picture don't lie.

  4. Those videos are so depressing. I cannot even imagine the damage done to generations of his citizens.

The film maker is interesting. How did he get in there, I wonder? Did he get access under the guise of a Lefty useful idiot? I read somewhere that Americans are not allowed in, but most other nations are. Is he Canadian, perhaps? He did an amazing job.

When I have the time, I'll listen to he whole series and try to answer my own questions!

  5. Buck, You say we have a long way to go before we get to something like that. Well, I don't feel that way. This is how I see it going.

With the take over of the Automotive industry almost complete, with Chrysler headed to Government Supervised Bankruptcy (protecting the UAW along the way) and GM not far behind, I see Princess Nancey and Sir Harry sponsoring new environmental legislation that will demand "legacy" power generators to go "Green". All the Coal, Natural Gas, Nuclear and wood fired generators go out of business or if they can't afford to make the "Green" conversion The One will take them over like he did GM, fire the operators and move government people to run them all. Shortly, the Space Station Crew will photograph the CSA (that would be Communist States of America) and it will look just like this picture only with bright light emanating from where ever The One happens to be.

Its less funny because it is really something that can come to pass.

  6. Andy: I never made it to the DMZ... my hat is off to you for being up there for ten months. I've never heard one single GOOD thing about duty there. Osan AB, OTOH, could be a LOT of fun! ;-)

Bec: There's an entire episode about how the guy who made the film got in... the second or third, I think. Semi-funny, too. I like this guy's sense of humor and his sheer balls for doing what he did, the way he did it.

Jimmy: Aiiieee, that's a bleak scenario! I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think it's highly improbable. I just don't see the American public sitting still for something like you describe.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
