Hockey Day in Portales...

Hockey and my morning coffee. I'll take it!

GO WINGS!

Update: All's well that ends well: Dee-troit 3, Pittsburgh 0. Conklin gets the shut-out. My Sunday is pretty danged good, so far.

  1. Just stumbled upon the game at 2nd intermission. Wish I would have known this earlier. Pouring a drink now...

  3. Apropos of nothing... I think Hossa has the fastest release in the game right now. He's just AWESOME.

  4. Hockey Day in Portales! Yeah, you and the two snowbirds who were watching.

In 1968 at Christmas my family spent the holiday season at our cabin in the mountains near Las Vegas (NM, not NV). There were two ponds nearby. A hockey game was organized, using fallen branches for sticks and a flattened can for a puck. No skates, of course. No one in New Mexico owned ice skates.

It was probably the only hockey game in the history of the state.

  5. Hockey Day in Portales! Yeah, you and the two snowbirds who were watching.

Snowbirds? You must have us confused with some place desirable, Gordon! But maybe you're considering the guys out at Cannon, as well. I HAVE seen at least one Red Wings jersey in the area (not counting SN1 when he passes through) recently... and that was on an airman from Cannon. I stopped the guy in Wal-Mart like he was some sort of celebrity or a long-lost brother (to his GREAT surprise)... so, yeah... I get your point! But... There IS hockey in NM! Strangely enough...

    Great story, too!

  7. Michelle: I fear the worst is yet to come for your Pens. It's entirely possible they'll miss the playoffs this year. More than possible, actually... probable... if they don't step up their game.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
