Facebook

Some of you Gentle Readers already know I bit the bullet, swallowed my Luddite tendencies whole, and created a Facebook account. My initial impressions? It's fun... BUT. The interface is about as clunky as it gets. The Help files... such as they are... are more opaque than the writings of any 18th century philosopher you'd care to name. But I'm surprised at the number of folks I know that are on Facebook: literally tons of 'em.

And it's addictive, which is synomonous with fun. I just pulled an unintended all-nighter... the finishing touch of which was putting up
a photo album of 20 (selected) pics I took in Arches National Park towards the end of 2007's Great Mid-Life Crisis Mo'sickle Trip (which was chronicled in these pages in May and June of 2007). Stuff like this:

All y'all who've been along for the ride since Spring of 2007 have already seen this stuff, or most of it, anyhoo. There may be some new-to-you shots at the link. And those of you who've stumbled upon EIP in the past year or so probably haven't seen any of it.

I'm rambling now. Must sleep...

  1. I have to admit that I was a bit aghast that you had joined Facebook. But like I said, it is a great way to find people and let them find you. I have never done anything with my account other than just have one - maybe because it is difficult and time consuming. I will head that way today to take a look at your Facebook additions.

  2. As soon as I get home I'll add you as a friend and check out your pictures! I love the one you posted - it has a motorcycle in it ;)

  3. Buck! I was so happy to see you have joined Facebook. I don't know much about technology, but I have been stumbling around Facebook for a month now trying to learn how to post things there and it's kind of fun. I have been in touch with a high school friend who I only sent Christmas cards too, and now on Facebook, we exchange little messages every day.

I laughed when my daughter told me I NEEDED Facebook, and I am not sure I NEEDED it, but I've had fun with it so far.

I am laughing at how quickly you have accumulated so many friends there!!!

  4. "No, Luke! Don't give in to the dark side...oh, shit. Too late."

    Just kidding!

    Have fun, Buck.

  5. That is a great photo of the bike and the surroundings.

Sometime I will have to take a slow trip across country in the little covertible (which is like a motorcycle only no need for a helmet!) It seems that I never drive x-ctry without always being in some kind of rush.

    Your picture says much.

Not gonna do the facebook, though. Having a blog AND an MP3 is pushing it, as far as modernizing my life.

Stop by the Barco and say 'hi'!

  6. Buck - very impressed that you took the plunge. Facebook can be a "time hole" but it is so much fun. I never really thought of looking up my cyber-friends - I'll be doing that this weekend.

  7. As you probably know by now, I answered your Facebook "Would you be my friend" offering. I never go there, really, but I think if someone likes me enough to invite me to be his/her friend, who am I to be an ungrateful bastard and ignore such a kind invitation?

In other words, Thanks for thinking of me.

  8. Facebook does tend to take time away from blogging....but I've reduced time on both for now.

Facebook tends to get your regular blog buds updated quicker than the regualr blogger posting.

The boys have been on it for years, me, about a month now.

  9. I'm not ignoring all y'all... I've just been making the rounds and forgot ALL about comments until just now.

Lou sez: I have to admit that I was a bit aghast that you had joined Facebook.

No more so than me, Lou. I thought long and hard about it, even after I established the account.

Jesse: This is great good news! I made it easy for ya.

Sharon sez: I don't know much about technology, but I have been stumbling around Facebook for a month now trying to learn how to post things there and it's kind of fun.

I know a lil bit about technology and I'm finding Facebook to be OBTUSE... and it's making me semi-crazy. I absolutely, positively hate it when that happens. But, ya, agreed: I'm having fun with it!

DC sez: Sometime I will have to take a slow trip across country in the little covertible (which is like a motorcycle only no need for a helmet!)

Agreed on the convertible thing, which is why I own a Miata! But bikes are more fun... except in the rain.

Christina sez: "No, Luke! Don't give in to the dark side...oh, shit. Too late."

Yup... too late. But ya DID make me laugh, Christina!

Kris sez: Facebook can be a "time hole" but it is so much fun.

Yup... I'm finding that out. Like at oh-dark-thirty when I'm still up... ;-)

Jim sez: In other words, Thanks for thinking of me.

How could I NOT think of ya, Jim?

Pat sez: Facebook tends to get your regular blog buds updated quicker than the regualr blogger posting.

Ya think? I'll admit to worrying just a lil bit about blogging time diminishing... but we'll cross that bridge, yadda, yadda...

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
