But I suppose I learned my lessons well: back in my technical writing/proposal writing days the corporate target grade level was nine. And just for grins ‘n’ giggles, and since I write in Word and then post, I checked the blog to date for November and got the same results: a Flesch Reading Ease score of 61 and a grade level of 8.2.
h/t: Lex, whose blog reading level is “Genius.” See, Gentle Reader? I'm going easy on ya, by comparison.
Ok, mine was college undergrad. LOL, I was waiting for grade school level..
ReplyDeleteMine was Jr. High School as well. I was a bit miffed - figured I was at least at the High School level. Oh well...I'd be interested to see what they base their 5 second review on.
ReplyDeleteI was high school level. But I agree with Kris ... I want to know what they are judging it on in an almost instantaneous reply. And in whose judgment?
ReplyDeleteMine was elementary school level. I also would be interested in knowing how they grade it. If they go by most recent post, yeah, it was mostly pictures, so I can understand that grade.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping others would chime in on this. The web site's response/evaluation time does seem rather short, doesn't it? But OTOH, Word's "readability" index validates what the web site sez about my blog, specifically.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a long, long time to learn to write at the eighth/ninth grade levels. I cannot even begin to tell you how much of my earliest product came back all bloody from my editors' red-lines back in the day. But I eventually "got it," and it's plain (to me) the lesson(s) stuck...
As our saying over there goes - БУДЕТ наукой ракеты! ;)
ReplyDelete- SJS
SJS sez: БУДЕТ наукой ракеты!
ReplyDeleteBabelfish sez: IT WILL BE the science of rocket!
:-)
And it pretty much IS, over at SJS' place, Gentle Reader. Literally. Good stuff, too.
OK...something is seriously wrong with whatever calculation is used to determine the readability. My blog...obviously a preschool or maybe elementary school level received a "genius" score.
ReplyDelete:)
Well, it says how dumb I am! LOL! I think your writing ability is amazing and I can't come close to it myself. It obviously shows you are well educated (if not formally with masters and Phds, then in life).
ReplyDeleteWow, Jenny...what a nice thing to say! (and it's sorta nice to know I can still blush. On occasion, of which this is one.)
ReplyDeleteAs noted above, TripleE, you're not the only one wondering about this oh-so-quick blog eval... FWIW, I find you easy to read and understand...and I'm far from the "Genius" category! ;-)
