Happy Winter Solstice!

I love this date and celebrate it EVERY year... mainly coz the days begin getting longer after today.  And THAT is reason enough to celebrate, innit?  The days also start getting warmer, or mebbe that's a stretch.  I DO know today is gonna be warmer than yesterday, though... we might hit 60 degrees!

The pic is from The Wiki article on the Winter Solstice.  It's a good thing those Wikipedians are really global in their outlook, coz the illustration shows most of Asia instead of the Americas LIKE ONE WOULD EXPECT SINCE WE FRICKIN' LIVE IN AMERICA.  Dumb asses.

Dang.  I had sumthin' else, too, but I can't remember what it was.  Oh, well... it ain't the end o' the world or anythang.

It's an age thing, Buck. I get it as well.

    1. Ahem: "Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is an American non-profit charitable organization headquartered in San Francisco, California, United States of America. It is organized under the laws of the state of Florida, where it was initially based. It operates several online collaborative wiki projects including Wikipedia..."

  3. Indeed 'tis the winter solstice. The day with the shortest span betwixt sun-up and sun-down in the year.

As to the Wikipedia thang: obviously Buck you have not been properly diversified and liberalized. Good for you!

@Brighton Pensioner - I get your drift, perhaps Buck could have said "WE LIVE IN THE FRICKIN' WESTERN HEMISPHERE". Hhhmm, doesn't have the same comedic impact...

    1. Or he coulda said, "WE LIVE IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE."
Maybe we should run everything we say by the State department?
Nah... that would take all the fun out of this here Intertubes.
Besides, I think the BP is only yanking his chain?

    2. @Skip: I'm quite sure my chain was bein' yanked. So I yanked back, as is my wont.

@Sarge: Yup, we were innit for the effect. ;-)

    3. So just where do I sign up for the "chain yanking" event? I'm pretty good at that...

What? That was a "literary device"? Oh...

      Never mind.

  4. Winter Solstice, huh? Aren't we s'posed to dance naked in the woods, or somethin'. . .

And I suppose 'Western Hemisphere' could include all of us; at least all your commenters here; I looked up Brighton, an' it's 10 minutes West longitude. . . (hope he doesn't live on the east side of Brighton)

    1. Well, I WOULD go dance nekkid in the woods... if I had woods. They're in pretty short supply in this... wait for it... neck o' the woods. The Second Mrs. Pennington and I always talked about goin' down to Stonehenge on the solstice during the three years we lived in Ol' Blighty but somehow we never made it. That's about as close as I got to nekkid dancing on the solstice...

"Western Hemisphere" would work for me, as a suitable compromise. I'm easy.

    2. *Drowning on coffee snorted through my nasal passages upon encountering the phrase "neck o' the woods"*

Carry on, nothing to see here...

    3. Sorry I forgot to mention that I was gouging out my mind's eye at the mental image of Buck, "dancing nekkid in the woods".

Or was that just for the ladies?

    4. Well, yeah... on the "for the ladies" bit. We DO need a partner for that sorta activity, given as how I'm not THAT weird.

  5. Oh come on Buck - fly your freak flag with pride! We all have one - go, dance nekkid by yourself. You don't have to tell us and if you do, we won't tell anyone.

That said, no chance of that happening here at this time of year. It was 29 degrees here last night. A might bit too cold for that sort of activity.

    1. It's been a lot colder than 29 degrees here at night for the past week; we got down to 13 with single digit wind chills a couple o' nights ago. Ergo: no nekkid dancing, unless it's during the day. It surprises me that all y'all are warmer than we are.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
