Some down 'n' dirty guitar work from Lucinda Williams and her band...
I don't want you anymoreComplete lyrics here. Hell, Lucinda... one place is the same as the next... you might could find some joy in P-Ville. I've been to West Memphis and Slidell and I know from whence I speak.
cause you took my joy
I don't want you anymore
you took my joy
you took my joy
I want it back
you took my joy
I want it back
That's the kind of music you listen to in a beered-up honkey-tonk Roadhouse, NOT "en concert," lol.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I've been to both too. Slidell has FAR better food, lol. When I first started to make the drive from my home in Ill to LSU the interstate hadn't been completed yet, so had to 2-lane it all the way from Sikeston, Missou down thru Blythville, Ark , thru West Memphis into Memphis to hit the Interstate on the other side. The old route took one thru town RIGHT past Elvis' estate with the musical notes on the wrought-iron gates and onto the interstate (for a short stretch) before getting off once again on Miss/US 61 2-lane thru Canton Miss town-square before hitting the interstate just outside Jackson only to go 2-lane on the other side. I've seen A LOT of the classic "Delta" in my time..
...getting off once again on Miss/US 61 2-lane thru Canton Miss...
Delete"Abe said 'Where d'ya want this killin' done?' and God said 'OUT ON HIWAY Sixxxty-One'!"
FWIW... you know I was down in Biloxi while you were messin' around at Tigger U, so I've seen my share of those ol' two-lanes and kudzu, too.
In re: roadhouses v. concert venue. HELL, yes!
DeletePS: And PLENTY of Kudzu too.. :)
ReplyDeletePPS: Bit of nostalgia, here--so much so that we seem to be in another Galaxy today compared to then: I used to make Blythsville my first gas stop on the way down to B.R. and there was a gas station and local restaurant just off the 2-lane where I would stop to gas-up and eat lunch. (One could get--1964 here--the blue-plate special of meat-loaf, mashed pot, green beans, salad and desert for the grand sum of $1.25!) My first trip back in my Barracuda in Spring, '65 I accidently left my dob-kit in the Gas-station rest-room where I freshened up. Natch, when I got home I mentally wrote it off. But when I came thru next Fall back to school, the gas-station mgr recognized me and gave me my dob-kit (w. all contents) back--they had saved it for me knowing I'd probably be back as a "regular." lol. What are the odds then, let alone TODAY!
ReplyDeleteI'd say the odds today are somewhere between 0.01 and non-existent. Back then, though? Pretty good... especially if you were a "regular."
