(Inadvertently) Broadening Our Horizons XX

I bought a sixer of Sammy Adams' Winter Lager on my last beer run and imagine my surprise when I went to the fridge and pulled this out of the carrier:

That's an SA Blackberry Witbier, which I wouldn't have bought by choice, given my recent less-than-satisfying run-ins with American fruity beers.  This one is no different, bein' way too sweet for my tastes... but we shall drink the damned thing anyway.  And then follow it up with a Winter Lager, which we both wanted and expected.  The best laid plans, yadda, yadda...

Today's cigar is an Acid Kuba Kuba... a fine lil stick that often graces our humidor.  It looks like today might be a two-cigar kinda day.  I just kinda-sorta feel it in my bones and elsewhere.

Update, 1535 hrs:  Round Two.

MUCH better!

Update, Part Deux:  Under the awning, in two views:

You need to view the second picture in its original size, i.e., click for larger.  In which we thank The Deity At Hand we don't suffer from allergies as the cottonwood detritus resembles a snow storm in its most intense moments.  But other than that?  It's the finest of fine days here on The High Plains of New Mexico.  I hope your day is half as good, Gentle Reader.

  1. Mebbe you should re-cap it and send it to Andy to enjoy in his PINK bedroom. ;)

  3. Deb: Too late... it's gone.

  4. I learned, back in the day when I still imbibed, to check all of the bottles in a sixer because some folks were wont to mix and match and they didn't much care who else suffered.
Oh gees and I don't smoke any more either, but I'm not averse to letting others enjoy their pleasures.

  5. The update's got it right. That winter lager is a damn fine beer.

  6. You and I are of common mind, here. Not understanding the appeal of fruit-beers. Two great tastes that do NOT go great together. Could be bad memories of mixing grape & grain.

I would have to say though, if I were forced to partake, I'd trust Sam Adams to put together a drinkable one. But I'd expect to be disappointed just the same.

  7. Deb is just hilarious!!!!!!!! Reeeeeeeeeeel funny that gal is.

Sorry, Deb, not a beer drinker. Not unless it's free. Then, well, yeah!

Buck, I guess we are about 2 1/2 weeks ahead of y'all when it comes to the Cottonwoods. I swear, a couple of weeks back, it was just as you described around here.

Fortunately, I am blessed also to be one of the few, the proud, the non-allergic to Cottonwood junk. I know you used a fancy word "detritus," which I figure means "junk." Pam suffered for several days, and once again said, "You're not allergic to anything! I hate you."

    God, I love her...

    btw: Nice feet.

  8. I haven't seen much cottonwood floating about here. Either it is too early or when the wind blows 30 mph, everything is just a blur.

  9. I'm with you on the fruity beers. Not for me. Andy (from Andy'splace) might be worried about your nekkid foot showing up like that. He thought he had the sexy knees/feet area of the blogosphere all covered and now you come along and expose your own fine foot. Nothin' like a little competition; it's the American Way:-)

  10. I must have missed the second part of the post.
The stogie looks just as good in picture #2, as does the Winter Lager.

We haven't observed any Cottonwood detritus as yet, but the green Oak crap is all over.

Cold & flu season in over. Allergy season has begun.

  11. I learned, back in the day when I still imbibed, to check all of the bottles in a sixer...

This was the first time this has ever happened to me, IT. I'll check from now on!

I would have to say though, if I were forced to partake, I'd trust Sam Adams to put together a drinkable one.

You'd be misplacing your trust, Morgan. Americans just can't seem to get the fruit beer thang RIGHT... EVERY one I've tried has been too damned sweet. The Belgians, OTOH... that's GOOD stuff!

Pam suffered for several days, and once again said, "You're not allergic to anything! I hate you."

Pam would hate ME, too. We're both blessed, you more so than I. ;-)

Lou: The wind is up again today, and it's blowing sumthin' FIERCE. I hate this shit...

...and now you come along and expose your own fine foot.

It's not the first time, Dan. There have been other favorable comments from the wimmen who drop by EIP about my feet, but Andy's was the first from a guy. Not casting any aspersions, mind you... just sayin'. ;-)

Ivan: Yeah, we have green tree snot all over the place, too!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
