Pop, indeed. Purists will shudder but I enjoy this beer from time to time...
That would be a Sammy Adams Cherry Wheat (C+ at Beer Advocate), which I think just might be the perfect drink for our first 80-degree day here on The High Plains of New Mexico.
And now to fire up both cigar and stereo, put the awning down, and enjoy. I hope your day is going half as well as mine, Gentle Reader.
Sam Adams make a nice variety of beer. I can't say that I go overly wild for the Cherry Wheat, but on occasion they certainly do fit the bill.

Drinking a harpoon myself, wishing it wasn't raining, was a little warmer, the kids were in bed, and I had a cigar. Not quiet as good as your happy hour, but it only gets marginally better than this at any given time anyway, so I'm good.
ReplyDeleteNever was a big fan of the cherry wheat, however, there is something to be said for it's flavor when things start getting warmer. I'm considering brewing a wheat somethingorother in the next couple weeks.

Matt: I envy you your location, in that you have access to more good beer... by virtue of livin' in a metro area.. than I can shake a stick at. And yeah: wheat beer season is upon us! Your Happy Hour sounds pretty good to me...

And my beer drinkin' female friends (which of course include my lovely wife) appreciate it when I have it around.
I think choice of beer depends on a number of things. Nibbles to go with it, sans food, indoors certain beer taste different than outdoors (can't quite figure why that is), cigar or not...

We have a seasonal Abita Strawberry Ale that is really tasty! Not fruity at all, it just leaves a hint of sweet aftertaste that smells like strawberries. Nice.

Moogie: Most of the cherry in Cherry Wheat is in the nose, too. I don't find the beer in question all that sweet, but Darryl obviously disagrees.
Deb: I've only listened to the album all the way through once, but my initial impressions are (a) Allman is in FINE voice, (b) the sidemen are stellar, and (c) the album is slightly over-produced. I'll likely have more to say after I live with the album for a while.
Jim: Yeah, I hear ya. I bitch a lot, too. ;-)

ReplyDeleteIt's close to 50 here today and we are all smiling and happy. Jim is right - it has been a horrible winter here in New England.
And like Jim - I'll bitch about the heat & humidity too. Cuz that's how we roll.
