Grammar and Spelling In the News, Plane Pr0n Edition

O, my aching ass...

A Romanian air force MiG-21 Lancer deploys a parachute to slow its speed upon landing at Campia Turzii, Romania, April 17, 2014. The parachute acts as an additional breaking (sic) system for the aircraft. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. R.J. Biermann)
I imagine those old MiGs break often enough without the need to deploy an additional "breaking system."  That photo accompanies a USAF press release from Campia Turzii, Romania, following the conclusion of joint exercises between the Romanian air force and elements of a USAF F-16 unit from Aviano AB, Italy.

  2. "A Romanian air force MiG-21 Lancer ..."

I thought a MiG-21 was a "Fishbed" or some other fittingly ugly name.

    1. That's what we (NATO) call 'em. The once and former Commies prolly call 'em Lancers.

    2. LanceR was an Israeli upgrade, since the Ruskies wouldn't give them any upgrades. I think the US bought all their Mig-29's just to get them off the street. I think they are supposed to get F-16's soon.

That's what the linked article said... from Portugal. The Commies are cheap, what with buying used Lawn Darts.

  3. Way back in the dark ages, 1980 or so, there was a wonderful picture in the press about a B52 sitting on the runway after it had just refueled and the wing fell off from the fuselage. Wing lying on the ground. The wit at either NYT or CSM headlined it with the words, B52's Not Old, They are just Beginning to Break In.
