I imagine those old MiGs break often enough without the need to deploy an additional "breaking system." That photo accompanies a USAF press release from Campia Turzii, Romania, following the conclusion of joint exercises between the Romanian air force and elements of a USAF F-16 unit from Aviano AB, Italy.

That's what we (NATO) call 'em. The once and former Commies prolly call 'em Lancers.
DeleteLanceR was an Israeli upgrade, since the Ruskies wouldn't give them any upgrades. I think the US bought all their Mig-29's just to get them off the street. I think they are supposed to get F-16's soon.

Way back in the dark ages, 1980 or so, there was a wonderful picture in the press about a B52 sitting on the runway after it had just refueled and the wing fell off from the fuselage. Wing lying on the ground. The wit at either NYT or CSM headlined it with the words, B52's Not Old, They are just Beginning to Break In.
