I Lied

That "I lied" is in reference to the post below and might could be a little strong.  Let's just say I found the motivation that was lacking earlier and did the deal, with mixed results.

The good news is I get a refund on my federal taxes, the bad news is I'll send over half of that refund off to Santa Fe.  But that beats owing money to both Sam and the vampires up in Santa Fe.  Oh, well... civic duty, done.

  2. Well, that's the case for me, too. Sam sends me a refund so I can pay Lansing. See, Sam gives me all sorts of deductions for charitable contributions, mortgage interest, and taxes paid to subsidiary governments (like Lansing; and Lansing). The state just asks me how much I made, and compute the percentage. And since the wife doesn't get anything withheld, we always end up short on the state and local sides. . .

    1. I'm actually kinda amazed I don't have to pay local taxes but gratified at the same time, if'n ya know what I mean. The local gub'mint gets their dime every time I buy something, though... and from the homeowners. I'm quite sure a good portion of my rent goes to pay the landlord's property taxes, so there ain't no free lunch.

  3. Ugh. Don't want to think about it. At least the property taxes in Little Rock are a fraction of those in New Orleans.

    1. Property taxes figured heavily in my decision to leave New Yawk... that and the weather.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
