The third period o' the Winter Classic is just under way... and speakin' o' which:
It's a great, great game so far... all tied up at one apiece... and being witnessed by 105,000 cheeringidiots fans at The Big House. It's 12 degrees in Ann Arbor, with a wind chill of -1 Fahrenheit and snowing rather heavily. I'm warm and toasty (and gettin' toastier as we speak: third beer) here in P-Ville, though.
Wow, just WOW.
LGRW!

Well, the snow might've looked impressive, but it was the super-light, breathe-and-it'll-blow-away, kind. The kind that, when you shut your car door, you don't need to brush it off anymore. Though I can easily believe it slowed the play of the game.
ReplyDeleteAlas, all-too-typical of this year's Wings - they carried the play to the Leafs, but couldn't close the deal, and ended up losing the shootout.
(*sigh*)
But hey, how 'bout them Spartans?
The Spartans were the bright spot o' the day. It's pretty frustrating to be a Wings fan this year... kinda reminds me of the mid-80s, but not QUITE as bad.
DeleteWatched the game from the comfort of Big Time's parents' family room. Big Time and his brother were actually AT the game. Ah to be young again.
ReplyDeleteFor all else, what Craig said.
I'd question my son-in-law's sanity, were I you. Are all his extremities intact today?
DeleteHeck of a fun game to watch, although I was saddened (for your sake) by the outcome. Also, I think the shootout should be suspended for Winter Classic games, same as for playoffs. It doesn't fit the aesthetic of it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on all counts, Jim, except I'd do away with the shootout entirely. Tied at the end of OT? Fine... one point apiece, we're done.
DeleteIn the regular season, of course. The playoffs are fine.
DeleteGod, Buck, I'm surprised you're still alive. What a jelluva loss to your hated Maple Leafs. Truth to tell, the Wings just aren't that good this year at this point and they were playing max grunt.
ReplyDeleteBTW THE MOTHERSHIP IS DOWN! IIRC this happened before this time of year, did they just forget to renew, or is it a matter of $? Check with Chris. If money is needed I'm sure we all can pitch in..

DeleteAs for yesterday... Bernier stole that game; the Wings outshot the Leafs by a factor of 2:1. As for the rest o' it... the Wings have suffered terribly this season with injuries. The fan in me thinks that we'll get on a roll once we're healthy but the pessimist in me sez you may be right. The weak link in our armor... as I see it... is goal tending. Howard has a looooong way to go to get back on form.
As for The Mothership... I'll ask around.
