What? ANOTHER Re-run?

I'm afraid so.  There was this exchange between Lou and I on yesterday's post about jeans...
Real cowboys wear Wranglers.

  1. But... I am not now, nor was I ever, a cowboy.
Well... I lied.  I totally forgot about this lil number:

We Were Cowboys Once, and Young

Blog-Bud Dan put a post up yesterday that talked about cowboys... and a good part of that post was about how he and his friends used to ride their hobby-horses all over the neighborhood chasing down bad guys and saving the ranch.  It was only a few days ago that the subject of cowboys came up here at EIP... on Father's Day, actually...  when we went off on a tangent talking about them and our youth.  It goes without sayin'... yet I always do... that I was BIG into cowboys in my yoot.  My parents had close encounters with the Poor House keeping me in cowboy paraphernalia, too.  And I have proof of my last.

That's the intro.  So cue up some appropriate music and return with us now to those thrillin' days o' yesteryear...

That's a Hopalong Cassidy shirt, pants, boots, guns, and RADIO at lower left.

Adding in the Cassidy hat, gloves, and tie.

I have no ideer who these clothes are modeled on.  Prolly some C&W singer.

Weren't we cool?  Heh.
Yep.  We were cool alright and we weren't wearin' Wranglers.

  1. Ah, memory lane.

In the first picture I see the foreshadowing of the man to come. All that's missing is the cigar and the beer. And about fifty years. Right?

    1. And about fifty years.

More like 60, and then some. I think I was about four or five in these pics.

  4. Yup... I have to agree that real cowboys wear Wranglers...
    ...and the wannabes, too.

    The reason is the fit.
Ya gotta live around those cowboys to understand.

BTW - I had a "Hoppy" outfit just like that.

I'm not too impressed with the fit... Wranglers seem to be cut for guys that are a bit broader in the beam than I am. These things border on "baggy" and I'm speaking as a guy who's still rather lean and mean, even at my advanced age.

You had a Hoppy outfit, too? Well... how cool is that!?!

  5. Never4 had a Hoppy outfit, but I also had a pair of cowboy boots that I wore to 1st grade and promptly got called to the Principals ofc by my bete noir the head guy himself--crotchety geezer (aren't we all?, lol) "Old Man Ford." (who never liked me anyway..) mainly out of, I would surmise, personal pique at the "disruptive element" (that would be me) who had dared to show his flashy boots to one and all--and worse, I made loud noised in the hall with the heels--or so it was claimed. Said geezer principal however made the mistake of calling my Mother to come pick me up. Needless to say she arrived loaded for Bear, pointing out that since the school didn't have a dress code he should take the proverbial hike!LOL! Much fun all around..

  6. BTW, I religiously saw EVERY Hop-a-long Cassidy movie at the Sat matinee in the old Lincoln Theater on the town square. Was my fave cowboy..

    1. Yeah, it was a tighter pattern than chain-link, more like chicken-wire, yet thicker than that and not quite as tight as std chicken-wire--also closer to chain-link in thickness but seemingly not quite either, iirc.
