I Hope My Heart Holds Out

From ESPN:
Even as Detroit opened a three-goal lead, Boudreau and the Ducks kept pushing.
“They were always talking about, Get one and we can get two,” Boudreau said. “Get one and we can get two.”
By the time Bobby Ryan tied the game late in the third period, it felt like an inevitability. The push from the Ducks got stronger and stronger as the game went on as Detroit mistakenly tried to sit on a lead against one of the biggest offensive powerhouses in the playoffs.
“They just kept coming at us, coming at us. In the playoffs, you can’t really take your foot off the gas,” Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard said. “That includes all of us.”
But Detroit hung on in this one, and the 5-4 overtime win taught us something about each one of these teams. First there’s no lead safe against the relentless Ducks. And the young, skilled Red Wings still have enough veteran presence to regroup while learning on the fly in the playoffs.
It sets up the making of what could end up being an incredible series.
Yeah, this series could be memorable, indeed, and I hope it's not fodder for my eulogy.  I can do without the extreme mood swings and the palpitations, though, and I'm sure my neighbors could do with less screaming, rants, and blue language when shit starts to go downhill.  But, Hey... the kids are alright.

Highlights from last night:

A RIDICULOUSLY bad penalty at the end of regulation was, oh, just a leeetle helpful.

    1. Heh. I thought the officiating was pretty good. The Zebras let 'em play for the most part.

    2. No, officiating was fine. The Duck who wielded the two-handed slash in the slot with 40 seconds to go was the ridiculously bad part.

    3. You're right about that. I bet Boudreau got a piece o' his ass during the intermission.

  2. I WAS worried about you last night, Buck--didn't know if you were still gonna be with us if they lost the way that they would have lost if they hadn't pulled it out, lol.

But this weekend is Derby Day so my hearts back in Louisville. Hard to believe we've been gone one year longer than we lived there, although split residences in N.O. and SoCal and with the added turmoil of Katrina sort of all combine to not make it seem like a solid block of time like our 18 years in Louisville were..

Don't laugh... it was a near-run thing. I got an e-mail from SN1... who was watching it in the Gulf... with a lil over a minute left in regulation, sayin' "I am SO pissed!" So, yeah, we almost lost TWO Penningtons last night.

    1. I saw the winner at 0:52 of the third, just outta fortuitous circumstances. I was back and forth with yer game when the Wings went to break and in between periods. I'm pulling for the Blues, btw. Not so much for the 'Hawks, though.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
