Minus the waiter, of course, and usually preceded by After Dinner Whiskey Hour. That after-dinner nap just MIGHT be the reason we normally don't go to bed until the wee smalls and wake up somewhere near the crack o' noon. I don't care... we don't have anywhere we absolutely, positively have to be in the mornings. Mornings are generally over-rated, anyway.

This Sorta Thing Happens EVERY Night

Mornings are best appreciated when one has worked all night and dawn means quitting time.
ReplyDeleteSaw many a lovely sunrise on Okinawa.
Other than that? Meh.
I've seen the sun rise from both sides of that equation, and like you I think "quitting time" is infinitely preferable to the day just beginning. That said, I was always an early guy in civilian life and got more done in the two or three hours between when I arrived in the office (typically at 0600) and when the rest o' the world straggled in. That "quiet time" was hellaciously productive.
DeleteThey are way overrated. I never missed one.
ReplyDeleteAgreed... and me, too.
DeleteFunny, Buck, I'm an early am guy too. When younger I'd hit the sheets at 0400 totaled after an all-day, all-night bender only to be wide awake @0600 (but feeling miserable all day--once I'm up I'm up)) As an O-6 CO of mine once said: "Just remember, if you want to hoot all night with the Owls in this man's Air Force you still have to get up the next morning and scream with the Eagles." LOL. Nowadays it's a three day shaky recovery time if I pull one of those, lol. Ah, the advantages of youth...
ReplyDeleteI HEAR ya about recovery. It took me at least three days to "get right" after my time in ABQ recently, and I didn't even get seriously blitzed... It was just the cumulative effect of many late nights accompanied by a lot o' booze.
DeleteI'm a farm girl - early to bed - early to rise. After midnight, I'm fairly useless - unless I'm out dancin' or something really fun.
ReplyDeleteI used to be that way, Lou.
DeleteNot a fan o' the morning myself either... However, I will also agree, it's the best time to get things done at the office, particularly for an IT guy... Before the needy folk get in!
ReplyDeleteYup! I got more done between 0600 and 0900 than I did the entire day after.
