There's this in the southwest corner o' my carport...
It's pretty cool to sit out on the verandah during feeding time. Those lil chicks make a real peeping racket... or as much racket as peeping can be... when Mom flies in with a snack. Mom did a pretty good job o' decorating the digs, dontcha think? The flowers are a nice touch. Dad helps out too, but he was nowhere to be seen today. Mebbe later, when he gets home from work... or the birdie strip bar.
One other thing, and I'm tempting fate by mentioning it, they have yet to shit on my car. It's thankful, we are.

If you've got birds that don't shit on the vehicles...well...put away the .410!
ReplyDeleteStill alive, Buck. Been reading, but not dropping comments.
"...birdie strip bar."
Heh!
Still alive...
DeleteI was wonderin'. I'm by yer place every day, waiting for the 3,000th shoe to drop and hopin' that ain't The End.
When we first moved to OK, I was amazed at some of the birds and where they would choose to nest. During a particularly rainy spell a bird built a nest in the outdoor grill. I waited a couple of weeks for the birdies to fly away before I cooked outside. Later we had some birds build a nest in the carport similar to your birds. Then a big snake showed up to eat their eggs. Jesse tried to kill the snake without it falling on her. Fortunately she got help from a cowboy driving by. He laughed at her. And the poop problem they caused made me not like little birdies quite so much. I like them better when they stay out in the trees, not my carport. Having a killer cat helps.
ReplyDeleteThere are some feral cats in the neighborhood but I think these birds are safe... mainly coz I've never seen a cat climb a steel pole. But those birds WON'T be safe if they start shitting on my car. -)
DeleteCute story about Jesse!
The color of the car somehow matters. We once had a golden-bronze one and it would be covered daily. And a neighbor said the same thing about his previous car which was also that color--said they seemed to go out of their way, would leave the other cars in the neighborhood alone--just shat on hizzen...maybe you're safe w. black..
ReplyDeleteI guess black IS safe... no bird shit yet. But dark green sure wasn't... birds had a field day with TGH back in Beautiful La Hacienda Trailer Park.
