One of My Pet Peeves

Hat-tip to Shoebox.  I don't buy DVDs, but most CD packaging is JUST as bad... yet another candidate for a visit from The Midnite FirebomberTM.   (Is it too early to trademark my new name?  Do I need a successful mission or two before I can claim the name?)

  1. I'm the reverse of you - I don't buy CDs but I do buy BluRay discs. And yes, it's ridiculous. A disk in a plastic case that is sealed with super sticky tape; then covered in plastic, covered in cardboard and covered in plastic again.

    Abuse of resources.

  2. Third option: Guy who bought a new DVD caught the guy who designed the packaging for said DVD.

Believe we could make an argument for justifiable homicide.

  3. It's not just DVDs...which I don't buy, either. (Mine come in easy to open paper envelopes from The Netflix.) It's every damn thing.

I never imagined that I'd spend my declining decades with a pair of scissors in hand trying to open groceries...or to take an antihistamine, or an aspirin.

And, don't EVEN try to help the great nieces and great nephews get their Christmas or birthday toys extracted from the box!

    1. You're right... it IS everything. One of the other things that piss me off in this space is child-proof pill bottles. What about us people without kids? What did we ever do to deserve this? And I pity people with bad arthritis in their hands...

    2. No truer words, Buck. I have watched my poor Mother-in-law struggle with that. Now, when she gets a new 'scrip (or refills), Pam goes over there and they put them in old fashioned plastic photographic film containers (clearly marked) so that MIL doesn't have to go through pain to take her meds.

  4. I hate those packages of clear hard plastic stamped together making it impossible to get to the object inside. Fire bomb 'em.

    1. I hear ya. Like Andy, I never thought I'd spend my remaining days with scissors close at hand.

  5. Or how about the double-click screw tops on mouthwash bottles, etc? Go past the 2nd click and the thing auto-welds..

Or plastic on cardboard containers covering anything, batteries, whatever--end up taking a carving knife to 'em

WORSE, how 'bout the hard plastic cover on each individual pill on a pill-tab foil? The back where one is supposed to punch it out is too firm half the time, so one ends up doing the surgery thing yet again..

    1. ALL valid points, especially the pill-foils. I HATE those!

  6. Agreed with every comment here. It all started with that psycho who poisoned Tylenol, of course. Ever since then, every damn thing in the world is child-proofed, covered in plastic, and otherwise entombed beyond any simple technique for opening. I have half a mind to request a ticket to Hell so I could spend all eternity poking the bastard with a pitchfork.

    1. Suldog, my memory is fuzzy these days. But, wasn't that in Chicago?

      Lemme Gooble it...hang on...okay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Tylenol_murders

I blame Bush. And, The Video...

    2. @ Andy: Heh. Yep, it's TWO thangs now.

@Jim: I'll join ya. But then again, MY tickets already been punched.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
