Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack...

... is all new music.  The Brown Truck O' Happiness left me a package early this afternoon while I was spending some quality time with my doctor... more about THAT in a moment.  So we're listening to Ray LaMontagne's "Gossip In the Grain," Van Morrison's "Born to Sing: No Plan B," and Lyle Lovett's "Release Me."  Lyle and Van fall into the "buy everything they release" category and Mr. LaMontagne is rapidly approaching that status, this bein' the third album of his that I've bought.  So today's Happy Hour Soundtrack should be a most pleasing experience.  Here's a cut off the Van album...

Tasty, eh?

About that doctor visit...  we got a bit of a scare yesterday when Dr. Garcia's nurse called me up and said "We got your lab test results back and the doctor would like to see you."  "Uh-oh," thinks I, as we set up an appointment for today.  Why "uh-oh?"  This: the Good Doctor informed me that she wouldn't see me again for another month unless they found sumthin' in my lab tests... and they obviously did "find sumthin'."  Ergo: Uh-oh.

So, fast-forward to earlier this afternoon... it turns out my PSA levels are elevated, meaning they're at seven.  From WebMD:
Most men have PSA levels under four (ng/mL) and this has traditionally been used as the cutoff for concern about the risk of prostate cancer. Men with prostate cancer often have PSA levels higher than four, although cancer is a possibility at any PSA level. According to published reports, men who have a prostate gland that feels normal on examination and a PSA less than four have a 15% chance of having prostate cancer. Those with a PSA between four and 10 have a 25% chance of having prostate cancer and if the PSA is higher than 10, the risk increases to 67%.
Dr. Garcia told me there's no cause to be alarmed at this point, but that she DID want to schedule a follow-on appointment with a urologist.  And that shall be done; we're awaiting scheduling information from the RGH Clinic.

It's always sumthin'.

    1. I'm a pretty big Van fan, too. Case in point... when we were divvying up stuff during our divorce, TSMP said "I don't suppose I can take any of the Van Morrison CDs?" My answer was a glare and a curt "no." She got the message.

Here's the bad news - Everyone has cancer in their 60's. The good news is, they usually die of a heart attack trying to have sex with women half their age, or run over trying to dodge traffic in the Walmart parking lot.

      Uh, no.

  3. Get second and third professional opinions, it seems that PSA (Poor Sailors Airlines?) counts and actual health threatening events vary wildly from person to person. Some will have the affliction but will die of 85 over 30 blood pressure (You being 85 and she is 30). No use in getting carved up like Pepys did without the hard evidence requiring something invasive. I've known two gents who decided to get the surgery and both had differing results and quality of living.

Then again, Frank Zappa and Johnny Ramone may have put off any proactive actions and ultimately were put down by that nasty prostate affliction at 53 and 56 years of age. Waay too young.

Having said all of that, I am sick and fucking tired of getting prostate checks over the past thirty damn years, including a couple months ago. It's annoying and I remain in outstanding health. Yes, I am grateful, but unhappy at the Doctors who continue spelunking about in my nether regions.

    1. A second opinion is in the works. NO one will be cutting on me until I'm positive there's no other option.

    2. That's good. I keep hearing whispers that it is possible to control/manage prostate health, and I am certainly hoping you find this to be true.

  4. Morrison and Lovett are up near the top of my play list. I'll have to look into the other guy, thanks for the tip. Hope your follow up and the second opinion provide better results.

    1. I wasn't as impressed with my third LaMontagne album as I was with the first two. I'm thinking three of his efforts might be enough. But the albums from Van and Lyle are SUPERB.

  5. I missed this the other day. But my advice is never worry until there is something to worry about.
