The Rolling Stones are strongly considering at least one live concert later this year to mark their 50th anniversary. (As captioned at RS.) |
From the Shoebox blog:
Ladies and gentlemen, the Rolling Stones could be coming to your town! And just when you were trying to think of something to do with your grandparents besides going to Golden Corral again.I've never set foot in a Golden Corral and will never, ever, ever do so. But I WOULD go to a Stones 50th anniversary concert. Fifty years? REALLY? Yeah, really. And the band played on.
I took my brothers to a Golden Corral and I've never got a Christmas card since!
ReplyDeleteThose guys probably make a million a month even if they don't do anything. It's sick. I'm jealous. I just wish I wrote a few songs before I went brain dead...
I hear ya about "jealous." OTOH, those guys have given me SO many fine moments and/or memories that I don't begrudge them their millions. They earned it.
DeleteI wuz at a Golden Corral once, a long time ago. I haven't been back and it's been vacant now for about ten years or more.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Nothing like a first-person testimonial.
DeleteIts good, I eat there all the time. Best smashed potatoes in town and they have real blue cheese crumbles which I like on my steak. You probably would not like White Castle sliders ether.
ReplyDeleteYou're right; I DON'T like White Castle sliders. I've eaten quite a few, mainly coz there's not a drunk alive who hasn't been in a White Castle at 0300 hrs (or later).
DeleteI will not go to Golden Whatever, either. It's not for me and I never go to any place that offers all you can eat. It just isn't dignified.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Stones; I admire that they had the work ethic to stay together as long as they have, even if it's been 20 years since I really enjoyed any of their new stuff. Compare the Rolling Stones with the ever glorified Beatles, I say the Stones end up in front. Because the Rolling Stones gave a crap about their Fans where the Beatles gave in to Narcissism and self absorbed navel gazing. Imagine the idea that Bianca Jagger could cause the Stones to break up...
I can't think of another rock 'n' roll band that's been together longer. KR and Jagger had a few spats along the way and went quite some time without speaking in the early '80s (IIRC) but they never broke up. That's quite the accomplishment. And their catalog is STUNNING.
DeleteI have been to a GC, but hate it. I never say never. Here in Duncan, choices are few and other Okies are not so picky.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Stones, I probably would not go to a concert unless someone less picky took me :)
I ALMOST went to a GC with a party of folks but adamantly refused to go in, sayin' we could find a better place. The party acquiesced.
DeleteWell....Buck, sit down. Brace yourself. If the Stones came near me and I could afford the tix, I'd probably go.
ReplyDeleteBuck...you OK?
Wha hoppened? One minute I was fine... the next I wake up on the floor? Whut?
DeleteThat Keef even saw the AGE of 50, let alone 50 years in the band, could be ranked somewhere near the loaves and fishes, miracle-wise. And, whatever else they did, "Bitch" may be the best riff EVER in a rock song.
ReplyDeleteThe riffs in "Sympathy" and "Midnight Rambler" ain't bad, either. :-)
DeleteIf Keith Richards dies from any cause other than those attributable to drugs or alcohol his body should be donated to the Smithsonian (or the British Museum, as the case may be, lol)
ReplyDeleteDid I ever tell ya that Keef was/is my hero and role model?
DeletePS: Well, throw in nicotine, too..
ReplyDeleteBuxck/
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised, lol
Buck, in my defense of my inclusion of the letter "x" in your name I claim it's in honor of your x-rated personality. :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I went down (just to say I'd been there, not expecting to experience any good music given the size of the crowd--500,000) to the Stones famous free concert in Hyde Park in '69. Took some good pics too. FYI the maj of the British crowd at that concert was dressed decidedly "NON-hippy," non-"swinging London" Carnaby Street/ Chelsea Rd, more preppy US-style middle-class collegiate--not even "mod", iirc--at least that's what my pics show...
I figgered that's what the "x" was, Virg.
DeleteTrue confessions time: I've never seen the Stones. I never was where they were at any given point in time, which covers a LOT of ground. But your point about how the people were dressed in '69 makes another point: the Stones have fans from all age groups and demographics. Hell, my 15 year old grandson (the blues guitarist) is a BIG fan... and he read Keef's autobiography.
PPS. You'll get a kick out of this, Buck. At the concert I was dressed really US preppy collegiate--enough to stand out as I was taking pictures. (my trusty Hong-Kong purchased Canon 85-135 SLR barrel zoom)I got some hostility in the form of "what ya doing, taking pictures of the animals in the zoo/natives" etc. I cooled things out by claiming I was a photographer from Rolling Stone, LOL! Got the on-the-spot idea from a friend of mine who HAD been one (and was a red-headed double of John Lennon down to the glasses) who had been drafted and was a 2ndLt Munitions Maint. Officer for a sister Sq. (91stTFS) at Bentwaters. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteYet another good tale, Virg. You need a blog.
DeleteYes my dear friend - I would go.
ReplyDeleteHey if the Doofus-in-Chief can evolve, why can't I? :-)
I LIKE evolution... I'm a big fan. ;-)
DeleteLips, baby! I'm there!
ReplyDeleteThey MIGHT play N'Awlins, if it's a tour. OTOH they might just do a "one and done" thing. They ARE gettin' up there.
