In My Immediate Future...

... like tomorrow or Thursday:

I've been talking about this for two years now and I finally pulled the trigger this morning.  I'm keeping The Green Hornet for those days when I wanna blast around with the top down and will take the Caddy on the trips to ABQ I'll be making this year, among other things.  Those four and a half hour rides to ABQ were the straws that broke this camel's back, given that NASA wind tunnels are prolly quieter than TGH at speed with her top up.

And the CTS?  Black on black, which is prolly not the smartest color choice for The High Plains o' New Mexico.  I believe Caddys should only come in two colors... black or white... and there wasn't a white one available in this part o' the world.  So black will have to do.

  1. Oh man I am SO jealous! I will be in the market for a new car next year and the CTS is definitely on my list of wants.

    Lucky man ... and well-deserved.

  2. Unless you got a "really good deal, G.I" or time is of the essence, why not order one tailored to your likes? (BTW, there are more ways to solving the "black and white problem" than by making a binary choice, lol....man, they've got some great new colors, Buck! And you're right, black is brutal in the summer on the high plains--keep the freon charged!)

    1. Time is indeed of the essence, Virgil. I'm goin' back to ABQ next week and I couldn't stand another eight hours in that wind tunnel that is TGH. The one I'm getting is to my liking in all respects except one: it's an automatic, not a six-speed. But it's about time I joined the 20th century.

  4. Sounds great! If you can wait a little bit, check out the Car Buying Service at USAA. They have pre negotiated deals that are usually well below sticker.

Disregard if you still enjoy the GM employee deal. That's the finest way to buy a Caddy!

Sounds like some fun be going on!

    1. GM took away my discount when HP bought EDS... so no more of that for me, and more's the pity.

  6. I've always wanted to road trip in a Caddy. Back when I had only been driving for a few years, I went to a car show. There was some monster of a Cadillac sedan in there, which a couple of my friends referred to as a granny boat, or some such. I said that hell no, that there is the way to get out on the road. It didn't look much like a teenager's ride, but it wasn't made for a teenager. Or for any other -ager. It was made to drive, drive, drive.

    1. Years ago I rented a big-ass standard Cadillac in SFO and drove it down Highway 1... through Monterrey, Carmel, and Big Sur on my way to Lompoc. I was much less than impressed on Highway 1... that boat wallowed and groaned through every corner on the road. But all became well again when we hit the straights on the open road. This Caddy, however, would acquit itself well on almost any road. It's interesting how things change over the years... I DO intend to drive, drive, drive!

  7. Ummmm...okay, first off, it's a Gubmit Motors carhicle.

I won't re-fight a battle that CAN NOT be won, so we'll just drop my first argument.

However...Dude!!!! Take a plane to Dallas, or Houston, or Deee-troit, and get you a white one.

Black vehicles suck. I should know. I've got TWO...and swore I'd never have another before I bought the last one.

    I suck.

  8. I know black cars are a PITA to keep clean, really just about anywhere you are. However, they always show the lines of any car the best. I live with the constant washing. I have three black cars. All shiny and mirror like glossy finishes. Good luck with the new ride.

  9. Buck, it seems I can somewhat recall being told that "Black Is Beautiful."

Not sure...but I have a vague remembry of it.

I'll swear...my '97 Mercury Sable (better known as THE BLACK BEAUTY) is a hoss of a looker.

You will not believe this...well, yeah, you will, because I'm telling you this, and I do not lie...

Today when I clocked out from my day job at 1423 HRS, I strode out to THE BLACK BEAUTY, and pulled her up to the front of the Horse-spittle (waiting on a co-worker that doesn't clock out until 1430 HRS...I give him a ride to work, and home every day because he lives close to me, and does not own a vehicle).

While I was sitting in the traffic circle waiting for Jeremiah, a young black woman (younger than me...so, she's "young") crossed the driveway, and I could tell that she was trying to get my attention. I hit the roll down button on the driver side front window, and she asked, "DO YOU WANT TO SELL HER??? THAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I'VE SEEN SINCE I HAD TO trade in my '97 Sable. The transmission went bad, and I didn't have the cash to get her fixed. I'll buy her from you!"

I just had to laugh...about that time, Jeremiah hopped in, having heard what was going on. He flashed his gold toofers at her and said, "Naw...Mr. Andy ain't lettin' this one go! It look like crap when it dry, and like crap when it rain...but he keep it washed up, and vaccuurumed good!"

Editorial note: "Crap" was not really what Jeremiah said.

You shoulda' bought a white one.

    Just sayin'...

    1. Thanks for that, Andy. I have an answer to keepin' The Dowager Tart clean, thanks to SN2: a California Duster. Sn2 swears by them and I'll take him at his word. You'd really have to see TDT in all her glory to appreciate how beautiful she IS.

  10. Alright den...

He is a man of honor, so I'm sure he wouldn't lead the old man wrong.

Next road trip, bring her by so I can experience her in all her glory.

I'll buy you a beer, too.
