It Happens EVERY Time...

"It" being the feeling I get when I go to the Big City... any Big City.  That feeling is best described as "WHY am I still here," as applies to me living in P-Ville.  Today's... or more accurately, yesterday's... feeling came over me while I was in Monte's Cigar Shop here in ABQ.  Why is that, you ask?  Just look...

Nirvana, for us stogie fans.  Those are two crappy cell-phone pics of Monte's walk-in humidor, which has more floor space than my apartment.  Literally.  I spent at least a half-hour in the humidor, just walking around... slack-jawed and drooling... until I could bring myself to choose a handful (two handfuls, actually) of really great cigars.  And take pictures, of course.

So, there's that.  Add to that feeling that I'm blogging from Starbucks and you get more fuel for the fire.  I'm beginning to think there MIGHT be a move in my future.

  1. Alb. is a fun town. We used to love spending the day or weekend there - going to the mall, Page One Bookstore, Sadies...I can see you living in or near Alb.

  3. If I may send a message to Buck via your comments:

Welcome to ABQ/KAFB Major SN1! Your abode is going to be so nice compared to that place in The Sandbox. Anything in my power (which isn't much) I can do for you on KAFB let me know. I work at SNL, office at 9th and Ordnance.

    1. Thanks, Bob, but Buck is headed to The Desert for a year. The family is staying in ABQ in their new house for the duration. But he appreciates the thought!

  4. Hey! That's where I buy my pipe tobacco and an occasional ceegar. Just up the street is my usual wateringhole, Sneakerz, with a great beer selection and an outstanding collection of broken-down vets of every service, working men, hot volleyball chicks and extraordinary pizza. I work on KAFB after all of my stations elswhere.... ABQ isn't a great place, but it is the greatest place for me. I wish I woulda run into you at Good Ol' Monte's.

  5. I didn't know you were an ABQ guy, Gray! Did you know I raced a Go-Kart one night around that huge open-air lighted Nat. Championship track they have as a soph in HS back in 1960 while passing thru on summer vacation from Ill to Cali. (They let the gen public race in those days) The small tracks most commercial establishments have these days are quite a visual/experiential come-down after that.. And that was riding those old square open-frame engine-in-back full-power models w. only seat-belt and and in tennis shorts/shirt sans helmet! The PC safety-freaks would go absolutely Able Sugar today!

    1. We did a LOT of stuff back in the day that ya can't do now, Virg. Yours is just one of 12 million stories in The Naked City.

  6. "Yours is just one of 12 million.."

Ain't it the truth...hell, my Dad and 2 HS buddies took off by themselves from Bloomington Ill one summer in the early 30s in a Model-T for Cali when half of Rt 66 was still log corduroy roads! Backed over Pikes Peak in reverse when 1st gear went out, slept on the beach at Venice Beach and snuck into the Rose Bowl to toss a football around just to say they had "played in the Rose Ball" lol. Try that stuff today! Today's helicopter parents won't allow their dearest out of the yard unsupervised, let alone a 3 month solo trek across the continent and back..

  8. Blogger is comment stifling today.

We've enjoyed visiting ABQ on several occasions.

But, you've just found a good barber!
