ESPECIALLY For Blog-Bud Andy

Click to embiggen to full size.  The tune played for all of 30 seconds, but that's only coz I was in the other room when it began.  Normally it takes about 75 milliseconds to give this tune a thumbs-down.  That's just a guess, though.  It could take LESS time.

  1. I'm gonna assume that's Loozy-Andy, because I don't think you and I ever had a Jim Croce falling out.

  2. You just can't learn some folks about what's good, and what ain't.

I shall just leave it at that, and allow my dear friend to continue on in his ignunce.

    Ooooops..."There's something in my eye."

SOME of us already know what is and ain't.

  3. Where I stand on this matter is already well documented. But... Your firefox setup is so similar to mine, it had this old man confused there for a second. After I McBiggified your screencap, it was like looking at my own display. Creepy. Get outta my thoughts, man!

    :)

  4. What I've pondered (often) is just EXACTLY WHICH CHICK you had it bad for that was a huge Croce fan, and cut you loose. That MUST be the source of your Jim hatred.

    Seriously, I have.

I'll bet "she was built like a 'frigerator with a head."

I know it's hard being in the minority, Buck. Trust me, I do. So, I know it's difficult tilting agin' the absolute historical fax on thangs of how great Mr. Croce was. I actually wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about just how unique the man, and his music was. I didn't publish it, because it sucks. True...suckage usually doesn't stop me...but, when it comes to a musical figure from my formative years, if it ain't just right, it stays smoldering in the ash tray.

BTW, I REALLY dislike the "reply" deal on Blogger commenting. When you use it, the subscription e-mail I get only shows your reply. It doesn't show what you're replying to. It is extremely confusing. I mean, when I try to figure it out it's like "Things are spinnin' 'round me, and all my thoughts are cloudy."

So, "That's the reason I've gotta get out of here" and take a break.

Thankfully, I got an extra pack of cigarettes rolled up in my T-Shirt sleeve!

You've hit on sumthin' here. One of my tests in the way-back... when vetting potential mates and/or long term girlfriends... was posing the question "So. What do ya think about Jim Croce?" An affirmative answer, however slight, resulted in immediate disqualification for long-term status. That doesn't mean the lady in question was eliminated entirely, just that she was relegated to "sometimes" or "any port in a storm" status. Fortunately for me, the wimmen in my circles tended to share my opinion of the man's musical worth. FWIW... The Second Mrs. Pennington thought his stuff was maudlin, if not outright horrible, too. And TSMP is the benchmark.

I like Blogger's reply function. The only issue I have is that it inflates comments, i.e., the raw numbers increase substantially. I don't like that.

  5. Well, I knew there was something about chicks and Croce going on there.

Just had the details off up in reverse...

Guess I'm just a croakin' toad on that one.

Not the first time, nor the last, I'm sure.

(I started to throw a line from "Photographs and Memories" right here. But, it would be impolite, and would hit too close to home. MY HOME!)

  6. I like Jim, but then I like John Denver too :) I think it is an age thang. Us last of the baby boomers just were not the rebels like you early boomers.

    1. Ahem. I am NOT a Boomer; I'm a member of the Silent Generation, and we do NOT like to called Boomers.

You've hit the Daily Double of The Mute Button Sweepstakes with Croce and Denver. Wanna go for the Trifecta? Hint: A long trip is called a J_ _ _ _ _ _.

  7. Gotta remember that Jim Croce was a performer of the late 60's, a throwback to the Bob Dylan/folk wannabees that the stupid ass record company promo weenies thought was Groooovy.

I was sick of Croce's whining back then, too. And I was twelve.

Bit of trivia; After Jim Croce's early demise, ABC Records was in a scramble to replace him with another guitar troubador of the bars... Jimmy Buffett.

    1. Croce is most definitely Groooovy.

I can take Buffett in small doses even though I'm not a Parrothead. I never hit the mute button (or "thumbs-down," the Pandora equivalent) when a tune of his comes on.

  9. Thank you Lou! I've been a Croce fan for a long time; Denver too.

Now - that sound you just heard was Buck's head exploding. :-)

No... taste is a personal thing. But you MIGHT have heard the subtle sound of my eyes rolling. ;-)

  10. Buck, I absolutely agree with you on John Denver and Journey. But Croce? I like him. I wouldn't want a steady diet, for sure, but I do like the occasional playing of some of his stuff.

Let me see if I can narrow the meaning of that: I have the greatest hits album, on vinyl, and have not picked it up on CD yet.

    1. Don't you buy Greatest Hits albums to get one or two tunes you REALLY like but can't stand the artist's output, otherwise?

    2. Generally, yeah. But I found, upon listening to Croce's, that I enjoyed some I hadn't heard before. That said, I could do without ever hearing "Operator" again. Does that help?

    3. Does that help?

      Greatly. You restored my faith.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
