MUCH Sadness

When I first saw this a day or two ago:

Oh, NO.  NOT Reverend Al!  Is NOTHING sacred?  The song that makes me think of love lost and love found and love eternal is now flogging fuckin' potato chips?  I may have lived one week too long.

  1. There are lots of things on TV that bother me, but this is not one of them. But then, I have no ties to that particular song.

  2. And therein lies the difference, Lou. "I'm So In Love With You" is VERY special to me.

  3. I may be getting old, but that girl can't act.

  4. I understand what you mean by a song that has a special meaning for you. And seeing those potato chips getting all mixed in with your original emotion is not good. Still, I think the original song was first "sold" to a producer and artist in a commercial transaction and somewhere in there is at least a partial idea/purpose of making some money. IMHO it's not too far from there to potato chips. Or in the case of Seeger's "Like a Rock," to a Chevy pickup. Still, I feel your pain.

  5. I like hearing some popular songs put to commercials, but this is not one of them. It's just potato chips, for heaven's sake!

Potato chips aren't even good for you. Hmmm...maybe this song is more appropriate than you thought, Buck.

  6. Putt: Yeah, she needs lessons.

Dan: You make good points, in that not every performer is a singer-songwriter. I'm pretty sure Reverend Al didn't write his own stuff, but I'm also pretty sure Seeger (Seger?) did. I still have enough Old Hippie in me to REALLY resent the "selling out" phenomenon.

Red: This particular song "going commercial" is like a stake through my heart. I like potato chips, though. ;-)

  7. Rev. Al? I'm just seeing an incredibly gorgeous brunette lady. Something's flying over my head again...

  8. Reverend Al is singing the song that's playing as that incredibly gorgeous brunette fondles her potato chips.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
