We're just in from After Dinner Whiskey Hour which was quite chilly this evening, Gentle Reader. To wit:
Now 52 degrees ain't exactly cold, but it was enough to send me to the closet for a wool shirt and also made me abandon my usual and customary bare feet for shoes... for the warmth that was in it, yanno? Which got me to thinking... I prolly might want to invest in one of these and fairly soon, too. For winter she's a comin' and we can feel the chill. But we digress... we should be on about the music.
About which, more Joan Osborne:
As I walk this land of broken dreams,It may seem sacrilegious to cover an icon of a Motown song and Jimmy Ruffin fans may or may not agree. Me? I think Ms. Osborne's cover meets and even exceeds the original, in all respects. This, my friends, is soulful indeed.
I have visions of many things.
Love's happiness is just an illusion,
Filled with sadness and confusion.
What becomes of the broken hearted
Who had love that's now departed?
I know I've got to find
Some kind of peace of mind
Maybe.
Cooling down here too the next couple of days.
ReplyDeleteCool song also.
cold and rainy here in Deutschland.
ReplyDeleteyou got me looking on you tube this morning. your links are usaually blocked by the music regulatories here, but i can find Joan on the you tube- THANX
Buck, I became a Joan Osborne fan the first time I ran across one of her videos.
ReplyDeleteI know I've posted a few, but can't find them. (That was before labels made their appearance at my joint).
Thanks for reminding me of her work. She is fabulously talented, full of soul...and way hot.
It got cool here too, which is very nice. We, too, are looking for a heater - a gas fireplace for our new bedroom. Someday we will build a fireplace outside on the patio, but not a priority now.
ReplyDeleteI like Joan, too.
Don't you have some nice slippers, Buck? Good investment in male indoor comfort, if you don't!
ReplyDeletess: Yeah, I can feel winter in the air...
ReplyDeleteAnon: That's too bad about the blockage. But I run into the same sorta thang when a Brit blog-bud of mine posts content from the Beeb. I'm glad you can see Joan!
Andy: Yup on all counts. I need to BUY more of her work.
Lou: I'm thinkin' you basically get our weather a day later, or less, depending on the wind speed.
Jim: I have a very nice pair of fleece-lined slippers that are worn a LOT during winter.
Jumpin' Judas, not a bad remake and one that I can still relate to, even in its post MoTown form. When you know deep down that it will never get that good again, the 'some kind of piece of mind' just rings Pollyanna hollow some how - Buck, dare to tell me that ain't true. I bet you can't either.
ReplyDeleteLin: You KNOW I can't and won't argue your point.
