I Feel Like This

Lifted from the Shoebox blog.  I plan to leave my teevee off this entire weekend, except for Saturday's football games.  That's really not an unusual occurrence, it usually stays off on the weekends.  This weekend, tho?  It's an imperative.

  1. We will go to church on Sunday AM then possibly to our local harvest fair. To be with people.

Because 10 years ago on Sunday we were not around anyone at all; we were in a cottage on a remote lake in upstate NY. We spent the next 10 days alone....

I don't want to ever do that again on 9/11.

  2. Gonn’a wakeup, probably with a slight hangover (after watching ND rebound from last weeke debacle and spank Michigan) listen to the local AM radio’s 9/11 introspective, think about my second cousin from Staten Island who died that day, who we use to visit every summer as children, vow my hatred for Islam and all those who practice that 6th century cult of violence and then watch my Colts, minus Peyton (heavy sigh), get their asses kicked, all the while drinking beer, eating pork and petting my dog named Mohammed (made that last one up). Pretty damn good Americana stuff.

"we were in a cottage on a remote lake in upstate NY"

Which one, Kris? Tis my neck of the woods.

  3. I've been alone every September 11th since 2003, Kris. I kinda like that and have no plans to change it. It's just a horrible day.

  4. I like your plan, Small-Tee. I haven't thought that far ahead yet, but my routine this Sunday prolly won't deviate from the standard Sunday, except for a lot o' quiet contemplation and perhaps phone calls to the boys.

  5. I'm all for quiet reflection and quiet hugs. I hate all the media exploitation of 9-11.

I'd love to see all the television stations run SILENT views of the Ground Zero and Flight 93 memorial sites all day...maybe interspersed with pictures or names of all the victims. No yammering and no tv personalities or celebrities...just respectful silence. Just IMHO.

  6. I'll be working on the house, but something will remind me and I will think of 9-11. But then I do that every day.

  7. Red: I LIKE your take, and your idea. Too much hype this weekend, waaay too much.

Lou: I hear ya. I think about 9/11 almost every day, too.

  9. Tim -so sorry about your cousin. We were on Trout Lake in Edward, NY.

Buck - I know some people do prefer the solitude on this day. There is a part of me who wants to be alone as well; but having spent 2 weeks afterwards without seeing a soul to even share a coffee with - I really don't think I can do that ever again.

  10. Alison: Thanks yet again.

Kris: I'm one of those "prefer to be alone" types. And not only on this day.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
