Fireworks

We sat outside in the backyard (or what passes for a backyard, anyhoo) earlier this evening and watched the P-Ville municipal fireworks show, which happens on the grounds of ENMU's athletic fields... about 500 yards behind Beautiful La Hacienda Trailer Park.  So we have a ringside seat, as it were.  We took pictures, of course, and feel compelled to burden you with them.  Without further ado...

I need a wider angle lens for this sorta stuff.  All of these were shot with my Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, locked down at 28mm, focus set to infinity, f-stops varying between f-11 and f-8, and various exposure times set between one and eight seconds.  Timing is everything when shooting fireworks and these eight shots are the best of the 140 photos I took tonight (I got a lot of black screen pics, due to bein' late on the draw).  Ergo, my success ratio is less than impressive.  All shots are as they came out of the camera, except for being re-sized (all) and cropped (in some cases).

  1. My little point and shoot does not do so well with night shots. Your camera really did a nice job.

  3. The fireworks themselves were not too shabby. I was stationed directly opposite you with the Floyd fire department. We spent the show in the midst of the smoke and showering embers. Thankful there were no fires though.

  4. I love fireworks! I think your success ration is just fine, considering that you have some very fine artistic shots there.

I love the shots where you captured the "tail" of the ascent; looks just like palm trees.

I hope you left yourself time to just plain enjoy those fireworks, too. :)

  5. Lou: I'm still not all that impressed with this lens, though. It isn't as sharp as I think it should be.

Deb & Moogie: Thank ya, Ma'ams.

Jenny: I was grateful for the rain we had night before last. That prolly took the edge off the worry about fires.

I hope you left yourself time to just plain enjoy those fireworks, too. :)

I was pretty busy, Red... but I DID enjoy the show. I thought about captioning one of these pics... the green star-burst one half-way down... as "incandescent palm" but I didn't. Great Minds and all that!

  6. My stupid camera can't take cool pics like yours can...

I like the Palm Tree effect, too!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
