Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

A chestnut...

Someone who was once close to me has a "55" milestone comin' up in a couple o' few days.  I might include this tune in my annual message on that date but I'm undecided at the moment.  It's either "Ol' 55" or mebbe this one, coz like the Red Rocker... I can't drive 55 (any longer).  I most definitely drove that thing once upon a time and we might have broken a few speed limits, back in the day.  And other things.  Heh.

  1. Can't go wrong with the Eagles. But I do love that purple GTO in the "Can't Drive 55" vid.

  2. I love the Eagles. I learned to drive in my daddy's 55' GMC pick-up truck. I was on hot chick in that truck.

  3. Dan: Wasn't that GTO NICE!?!

Lou: I learned to drive on a '52 GMC pick-up. What a strange coincidence. But I was less than hot, though.

  4. Love the beautiful cars!!!

I can't drive 65, either, And I have fully gone over to the DeutscheAuto side. What's not to love? Speed, handling, comfort and did I say; handling!

The muscle cars in the videos are really beautiful, but made of unobtainium, and besides, I am not mechanically inclined to properly love and nurture one of those beauties.

So I will have to toodle down the road in the sleeper chick car that can go 156. Stock.

  5. A Tom Waits song from "Closing Time" (his first recording)in 1973. The Eagles covered it a year later in "On The Border".

Waits is, as you've said, an acquired taste.

    Wanna trade? ;-)

That's one thing I just HATE about Miatas... uninformed, clue-free asshats callin' 'em "chick cars."

J.R.: I thought about posting the vid you linked instead of the Eagles, but I wanted Waits' studio version of the tune. The one you linked is the best of the bunch I listened to yesterday afternoon.

  7. Buck --

Waits is a brilliant story-teller, and writes great sad songs, The Train Song, Soldier's Things, I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You, etc. I wish that he would turn his talents to the short story. I suspect he's got some Raymond Carver in his makeup.

    I know, I was saying that stuff, too. But the real thing is;
    1. Does the Car start when key is twisted?
    2. Does car move in appropriate direction when lever is moved?
    3. Do you have fun?

If answer to 1. 2. 3. are YES!, then, you win and it is a cool car.

It's all good. Ragtop cars are almost like riding a motorcycle, except you can eat a cheezburger and drink a coke while driving!

    I suspect you're right.

Darryl: I AM a (car) winner, by your definition. And mine.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
