That's Google's generic search page for June 9... Les Paul's birthday. (click for full-screen) You could play that guitar and even record your playin'. I almost missed it because my Google search page is customized with a Red Wings theme, so I never see the cool stuff Google comes up with... unless someone tells me about it. In this case it was a tweet from Blog-Bud Cynthia.
Further:
If there were a doodle hall of fame, Google’s latest doodle would be inducted.
In commemoration of legendary musician Les Paul, who would have been 96 today, Google’s homepage has been transformed into an interactive guitar. The doodle features a stylized guitar that lets you mouse over the strings to make music, and even record your song. Recordings can be up to 30 seconds long and the site gives a URL for the recording so rocker-wannabe’s can show off to their friends.
To learn more about the ‘father of the electric guitar,’ simply click on the doodle itself and a web search of Les Paul opens up.
Cool.
I must've seen that a dozen times today and never once thought to strum that puppy.
ReplyDeleteOkay, it's still there and I've proved I can't play a lick of music. At least it's in tune
For whatever reason, I can't get mine to play:(
ReplyDeleteIt's such a hit they're leaving it up for another day... I may not go outside ;-)
ReplyDeleteSkip: I have a guitarist friend who says the Goog-tar is worthless. That may well be from a musicians POV, but it IS cool. And Good On 'Em for leavin' it up for another day!
ReplyDeleteLou: That's weird!
Agreed on honoring Les Paul, Rob. And "the kids are alright" (a Who pun that's prolly lost on ya, given your jaundiced view of rock 'n' roll). My 13 year old grandson is a budding guitarist and he knows very well who Les Paul is. I just gifted him with a Les Paul tribute album by Jeff Beck and he was MOST pleased. Nice links, too!
ReplyDeleteOoops. Here's Lester at 93:

And good for your grandson. Turn him on to some of those flatpickers I sent you, he'll no doubt amaze us all.
So google will honor Les Paul, but ignore Patriotic holidays?
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to start using Bing.
I am soooo glad Pepper didn't find out about this!
