So I wake up at the crack o' noon, flip on my teevee and see The One's "I Shot the Sheriff Osama" tour is on its second stop, after yesterday's sooper-dooper event at Ground Zero. Today the tour swings into Ft. Campbell, KY, home of a Special Operations Aviation Regiment and the parent unit of the guys who flew the helos into Abbottabad. Why here? Coz The One "wants to thank them personally, along with the members of SEAL Team Six, and Air Force personnel who provided invaluable support." Yup... there ya go, Barry, bein' all-inclusive. I'm sure the Coast Guard had a hand in this, too, so what about THEM? And the Marines? C'mon, Barry... if you're gonna be inclusive then get all-in, Baybee.
Update, 1330 hrs: Gentle Reader Bec gives us the link to this in comments:
Heh. Thanks, Bec. That's GOOD!
... just waiting for The One to come bounding on-stage 'Twould be funny if one of these times he had a li'l slip and fall, huh? Course he couldn't embarass himself any more than he already has.
ReplyDeleteIn case you haven't heard this version yet...

Thanks for making me laugh out loud in a good identifying with you way! I thought the same thing about the Patton flag. Oh my God why oh why could this not have happened on Bush's watch. Though can I just say that Obama is suddenly well into this war on terror thing now isnt he? After having shot Bush down in flames over the whole thing and owing it all to him over the last ten years. Oh Christ this will never end. And as great as it is OBL is dead I am so pissed off to hell that he didn't suffer. Why do people who deserve to suffer never get their comeuppance.
ReplyDeleteDeb: Yeah, the world most definitely COULD use an Obama pratfall... of the physical kind.
ReplyDeleteBec: OMG! That's TOO cool fer school!
Alison: Yeah, we're of the same mind about the timing of the kill. I also have SERIOUS issues about the after-event stuff, like the "Islamic burial" and other PC crap. I told a friend of mine we should have put the sonofabitch's head on a pike at the main gate to Bagram AB, AFTER we drug the body through the streets of Kabul.
Don’t know if this scenario qualifies as a pratfall, but wait till election ‘12 kicks in, dude is gonn’a misstep big time and use this in the most inappropriate way when things look really bleak for his reelection. Mark my words.
ReplyDeleteCould you imagine being those troops who just got back form a LOOOONG tour, some of their buddies got killed or injured and all they want to do his go home hug their girlfriends/wives/kids, have a good burger and a couple of beers but noooooo…gott’a do a major field day on the barracks, press the uniform, go march and stand in formation for who knows how freakin’ long…all because Barry wants to spike the football.
Well Mr. President, as you said, “we’re better than that”. Go play another round of golf and call it a day, just stop already, you’re embarrassing.
Rush just said, (It's delayed here) that the WH just released an 8 min. video of the prez. and the others during the raid.
ReplyDeleteWhat's next, tee shirts? Hey, they did for the "memorial" in Arizona a few months back.
(Sarcasm fully on) Yeah, how embarrassing of BusHitler and the infamous "Mission Accomplished" banner...
...gott’a do a major field day on the barracks...
ReplyDeleteYour point was VERY large in my mind, tim. You and I both know that was EXACTLY what happened, and it was worse because of the short notice. I'm thinkin' the kill team is gettin' dizzy from all the major eye-rolls that accompany the never-ending debriefs... which, from their POV, is prolly the absolute WORST aspect of this job.
This all kinda reminds me of a Steve Canyon comic strip (by Milton Caniff) I saw a long time ago. It was from the Sunday funnies so it had lots of panels and the gist of it was one of the characters completed a mission but had to walk out of the jungle through some really heavy terrain without any support. Finally, after some days, he was rescued and returned to a medical facility. Eventually a reporter was allowed to interview him. As the reporter left the hospital room another reporter asked what was said and the first one replied, "I'm not sure, but it sounded like 'cough, cough.'"
ReplyDeleteIf Obama stayed home and did not thank these soldiers personally, would that be better? Would Rush and other right wing comedians make fun that too? Probably. I understand that politics is a biggie here, but if killing OBL was a big to do, then there is bound to be some ceremony for the heroes and the President is bound to be there.
ReplyDeleteSkip: Steve Canyon was a a childhood hero of mine (and Terry & the Pirates, too).
ReplyDeleteLou: I don't have a problem with Obama visiting and congratulating the troops -- he SHOULD do that. I have a problem with the frickin' optics: the pep rally grandstanding BS. Bush spent time with the troops but he did so quietly and out of the media's eyes... the one notable exception being the "Mission Accomplished" aircraft carrier thing. Other than that he was very quiet and low-key with the troops and that's the way it should be done, IMHO.
Nyuk! I was driving to work when Limbaugh was playing that one yesterday.
ReplyDeleteMan, my grin got bigger and bigger. I was in an excellent mood all evening.
