...where I said "No one talks about it much, but after the Columbia disaster I'm thinkin' we ALL hold our collective breath when the shuttle comes home."
I scare myself sometimes.
(from the usual source)
If a lifetime can be likened to a day, then this is Happy Hour!
Very true!
ReplyDeleteI was watching live the launch of the Challenger. I hold my breath at manned shuttle launches...and returns.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. And likely pretty true too.
ReplyDeleteDale and Kris: One must never discount the supernatural.
ReplyDeleteRed: You and me BOTH. Just in passing... I was awakened by the Columbia explosion which sounded like the loudest sonic boom you've EVER heard. Or a bomb going off a half-mile away. Columbia disintegrated not far from where I live... over Texas.
Red Hamster,
ReplyDeleteI saw it live too, watching in berthing on USS California. Took a while to realize what just happened. Dang.
Buck,
Didn't hear a boom, but was watching local news/weather (Byron Morton or maybe it was Mark Ronchetti if you get the ABQ feed) on a Saturday or Sunday morning. The guy said that *this* was the moment Columbia was passing over New Mexico. A few minutes later they reported the sad news.
I have a screencap of the WX radar that shows her remnants in the atmosphere. Will try to send.
That screencap would be cool, Bob. I'm pretty sure it was a Sunday morning, now that I think about it.
