Didja watch the President last night? I did. I shouldn't have; he ALWAYS disappoints. I'll give him props for being suitably deferential to The Troops and at least mentioning Dubya without blaming him for this, that, or the other. But his pep talk about his
Bill Kristol liked the speech, tho. Surprise! The majority of pundits on the right thought Obama was flat and rather boring. Me, too. Like I said: I shoulda skipped it. There was other, better stuff to watch.
Cartoon from Townhall.
Fortunately I had important business that kept me from being tempted to watch -- being taken to birthday dinner always trumps an empty suit who lives in the White House now. Did he really get into a legislative agenda?!? Clueless clod.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that 50,000 troops will stay there with no combat pay for the rest of their tour. He's just twisting the knife.
Moogie: According to this piece I read at OTB, combat pay is still in effect. I don't see how it could be withdrawn... there'd be HOWLS of indignation from every corner of this land.
ReplyDeleteI went to see the movie "Inception." I just don't seem to care about the Pres these days.
ReplyDeleteDo people call him Barry? That's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it and strangely our papers barely even registered it. Blimey. I think it's because Blair has written a book and had a major interview so that's all over our news. Blair was, by the sounds of it, way way more impressive about Iraq (again) than Obama. Every time Blair speaks to justify that war I nod along. I have never changed my opinion for the reasons for it and the honour and noble sacrifice of all those who fought in a just cause. Blair nails that with sincerity every single time. As he did tonight.
I watched a PBS program where a couple of scientists were taling about brain surgery and how some cases surprised them.
ReplyDeleteAfter doing hundreds of successful surgery's on the left temperol lobe (sp?), they had a patient who didn't get better.
Turns out that the patients who did well, had a good right temperol lobe. This guy had a damaged right lobe, and of course his brain had no way to shift the problem, once removed.
There's a corollary there somewhere about politicians.
My uncle told me once, that a good politician is an oxymoron. Good men and women corrupt themselves in order to win.
Lou: Your time was better spent than mine last night.
ReplyDeleteAlison: Obama went by "Barry" during his college years and possibly before. I'm with ya on Blair; I think Tony personified the "special relationship" and shared values between our two countries. Too bad Barry doesn't share Mr. Blair's views.
Anon: EXCELLENT illustration. Thank you.
Reason #1: I honestly thought he made the speech to try to "up his numbers". He's not been getting the best reviews lately, so easier than going out on the road to display the charisma, do it on TV. But it doesn't really work for him.
ReplyDelete(Reason #2: Look, I'm in the Oval Office!!)
I refuse to listen to that smug, self-righteous voice unless there is no way out of it.
ReplyDeleteLast night, The Oracle and I watched episodes 5 & 6 of Season 5 of The Sopranos. We've seen them many times before...I'd rather watch Tony Soprano be a prick; at least that's just a character on TV.
Obama is a prick - for real.
No, I didn't watch. I'm not interested in a damn thing he has to say. At least not until we get to hear his concession speech.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I had more important things to do...like rearranging my sock drawer.
What Buckskins said.
ReplyDeleteI do find the honesty refreshing when people of Obama's ilk talk about military things, though. Logically, if you think the people who run the government, six years out of every ten, are a bunch of corporate thugs who have no souls and are out to make life miserable for all the "real" people, and are Satan incarnate, and stupid, and incompetent, and smoke too much...then your attitude toward anything the Government would want to run should match the attitude liberals have toward our military.
You get into ObamaCare and Social Security and Medicare and AFDC and SDI and needle exchange programs and, and, and, and, and...this is where things stop making sense for me in liberal-land. Well, that's one of many places.
They really scare me. They go on for a whole decade saying "Oh, look at these immoral things our Government is doing under this horrible Republican guy" -- and then when they get in it's like "Yay, now let's give the Government all these new powers." w..t..f..?
I did not watch the speech, Buck. Thankfully, I was at work at my second job trying to make a living in Barry's America. But, I would not have regardless.
ReplyDeleteKristol wrote the "duh" of the day though...It's therefore unrealistic for supporters of the war to expect the president to give the speech John McCain would have given, or to expect President Obama to put the war in the context we would put it in.
I have not watched, nor listened to anything ObozO has said in at least a year. Only when I accidentally hear sound clips on the radio, do I hear the guy. I decided that it is truly unrealistic to expect anything that I would agree with, or that would give me any hope for the future to come from his wimpish lips.
Therefore, I do not subject myself to it. I have not even read much about his little speech. However, I caught a snatch on the local news of military wives stationed here complaining about losing combat pay. So, I am glad to read that they were misinformed, and it will continue.
(Reason #2: Look, I'm in the Oval Office!!)
ReplyDeleteHeh. I think there's more truth in THAT than anything else. He just wanted to show off the new decorating theme, mostly. ;-)
Obama is a prick - for real.
I wouldn't go that far. Incompetent? Yes. Enough hubris for six people? Yes. Out of touch? Most definitely. But he'd prolly be a decent guy if he were in some other bid'niz, like selling used cars. Or dealing drugs.
At least not until we get to hear his concession speech.
I can't freakin' WAIT for that one!
They really scare me.
This is something of a good thing... coz the Right and right-leaning independents are more motivated than I've seen them in a long time, like since Carter bumbled through his four years. The scary bits are whether the damage Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have done can be UNdone.
Andy: I generally avoid The One's pronouncements... my mute button gets quite the work out when I watch the news. But I thought this occasion was one where he MIGHT have at least tried to live up to his hopeychange rhetoric. He did NOT.
