Another Beautiful Spring Day On The High Plains Of New Mexico

Not.  From the NWS in ABQ:
Statement as of 4:18 AM MDT on May 10, 2010

... High Wind Warning in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning... which is in effect until 6 PM MDT this evening.

* Location... this includes the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo
Mountains... the Raton ridge... the Sandia and Manzano Mountains
and portions of east central New Mexico.

* Winds... west to southwest 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
(sigh)  Stuck inside for yet another day. I was just outside... briefly... to take the picture you see below.  I can still feel the grit in my eyes.  Not at all pleasant, this stuff.

Out my back door, looking north towards town.  Ug-leee.

  1. Similar weather here too Buck. It's been windy (30mph+) for the past 4 days, with at least 2 more to come. And as I've said before, we don't have the dust we do have the pollen.

Lots and lots of pollen that changes the color of anything in it's path.

    Ugh!

  2. Hang on to your hat.

The weather here has been screwie. It goes from temps barely reaching the 60's one day to 80's then next - all windy. We had some rain and thunder to go along with the weirdness. Fortunately, we have missed any major storms.

  3. Good weather here but the future is bleak. We expect the oil to hit within a few days. The only thing that might save us is a long period of offshore winds. This disaster will change the Gulf and much of the rest of the country forever. Its kind of like knowing the Apocalypse is a few days away and there is nothing that can be done. A real bummer my friend.

  4. High winds everywhere. Uprooted trees in Beverly Hills over the weekend and made the pier at Santa Monica nasty indeed--gale force winds @40kts.

    PS:
Check my post down below re the Wings loss..

  5. Kris, Lou, & Virgil: Yeah... it's been a strange Spring everywhere, hasn't it? I'm thinking Tennessee got the worst of it, though.

Dan: I've been following the spill story. It's beyond sad; the economic impact is just going to be devastating.

  6. Buck, don't let that nice looking baseball cap you're wearing in the pic blow away. BTW, did you see the AP story on Yahoo yesterday about the construction guy in Florida who thinks it's possible to pick up a lot of the oil with straw and hay? Seems too simple but he said just spray the straw or hay out there on the oily water, let the oil attach itself to the stuff and then use fishing boats use their nets to pick it up. In the video demo the hay seemed to work. He showed his idea to BP and is waiting on their word to proceed.

  7. Ah, how I don't miss the dirtstorms.

On the trip east we had the wind in Wisconsin, then again in New Jersey. The day we were to take a tour boat ride around Manhattan, it was a full gale. We skipped the boat ride.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
