Musta Been a Hella Weekend

More than a few of my daily reads have either nuthin' in the way of new posts or minimal output, which is to say mere "square filling" exercises.  Not all, of course... some folks are still with the program... but the blogosphere's landscape is bare enough today for me to notice.  I can definitely relate and I think it might be the weather.  There's an ol' saying about February being "the cruelest month" and I do believe that to be true.

OTOH, I also realize that mebbe a LOT of people are nursing hangovers from Sooper-Dooper Bowl parties.  That's a distinct possibility, too.  As for ourselves... we have a clear head today, speaking strictly about alcohol-related self-inflicted wounds.  None.  Thank The Deity At Hand.  But we ARE suffering from weather-blahs.  Here's what we look like at the moment:

That's the local private WX station's readings above.  About which: I never know who to believe... the PWS or an official US Gub'mint (specifically the US Air Force) report.  Note the difference in temps:

The temperature delta can be up to six or eight degrees from time to time; today it's only a few degrees, a piddling difference.  Nonetheless it remains cold, damp, and gray outside and that, Gentle Reader, is getting VERY old.  I didn't plop down on The High Plains of New Mexico to experience Michigan or New Yawk weather, yanno?

Motivation is lacking.

  1. That official Cannon Wx report is almost certainly coming from weather equipment provided by my company and remotely maintained by yours truly. Trust it, good sir.

And as we would tell the maintainers and observers there at Cannon, you're not doing yourself any favors by comparing weather reports from two different sensor suites in two different places.
It is, as my word verification suggests, a gamble.

Wow, all that just to work the word verification into my comment. Talk about the long way around.

  2. Yeah, I DO trust the Cannon report, more so than some weather geek's personal station. But their reporting can go missing sometimes at night and on the weekends.

Speaking of Cannon Reports... that used to be one of those initiation rituals we pulled on newbies back in the day... specifically we'd call Ops in the dead of night and get some jeep airman on the phone and bark "Stand by for the Cannon Report! Ready to copy?" The answer was always "Ready, Sir!" (of course) At which time we would shout "Baker-Oscar-Oscar-Mike!" into the phone and hang up. Yeah, ya hadda be there...

  4. "But their reporting can go missing sometimes at night and on the weekends."

That's funny. I know exactly why that happens. Cannon has a unique runway configuration that causes some issues for the system's automatic report dissemination. If the data goes missing it is because the crew on duty is unaware of the procedures to keep it going.

I should call them up and say "Hey, MSgt Pennington wants this data restored ASAP. Read your SOPs and fix this!"

  6. No hangover here, just busy clearing out the weekend boy wreckage. Mondays are for cleaning and resupplying the bare pantry.

It's supposed to drop sleet, ice, ice pellets, snow and/or rain here this week. This weather is the shits.

The February blues are trying to grab me, but I'm running as fast as I can.

  7. No hangover here, either. But, it's miserable...about 40 degrees, and the drizzle this am has turned to a steady pour.

Was just talking to #3 son in the kitchen...bored out of his mind, so came over to visit. He said, "It usually gets to be March, doesn't it, Dad?"

I think we're ALL whining about our weather this winter. I expect to see Noah & a few animals (2x2) before too long. ;-)

  9. I'm whiney about weather. Our ground is saturated and more rain and cold are coming. Skeleton walls stand waiting, looking bleak, and there can be no building until the rain stops and the sun comes out. Even if the weather was not keeping us from building, it is just the pits.

  10. Yeah, the weather is weird this winter, fer sure, and I'm whining about it more than most. Good to know all y'all had clear heads yesterday.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
