In This Morning's Mail

Retired USAF Lt. General Mike Dunn, President and CEO of the Air Force Association, periodically sends AFA members notes with items of interest, links, so on and so forth.  This lil blurb was included in today's missive:

Finally, many of you sent me an email which said:
Just prior to the start of the Air Force-BYU football game, Sept. 22, 2009, this video was broadcast in the BYU stadium in Provo, Utah.  Later, the USAF Academy Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Gould, showed this clip to the faculty and staff. He told everyone that BYU ran it minutes before the kickoff at the game. He was clearly moved by it, as were those who watched it.
I exchanged emails with General Gould … and he confirmed the accuracy of the above email.  This weekend, where most of the nation will be focused on the Superbowl, it behooves all of us to remember …
Here's that video:

Good on BYU.  There are other universities that think pretty much the same way... Notre Dame comes to mind... but there are others that don't seem to have the time to celebrate our armed forces.  And that's just too damned sad, innit?

  1. Buck,

A couple college teams, I think Missouri and maybe Clemson, this past season wore for a game uniforms, helmets and even cleats with camouflage to honor the troops.

But you are correct; there should be more of this, good on BYU.

  2. Louisiana Andy here:

Buck, that is cool. And, I'm not surprised one bit. Got a good buddy BYU grad...his kids BYU grads, too.

It would be hard to find a more patriotic campus in the h'yar United States. Maybe Hillsdale, and obviously the Service Academies, VMI, etc.

Ain't it something? BYU, (maybe) ND, the Baptist Colleges, Assemblies of God colleges seem to revere the military.

I will not take time to state the OBVIOUS!

  3. Small-Tee: I think I read about that, now that you mention it.

Daph: Me, too. More than once.

Andy: MOST definitely ND. They play Navy EVERY year and the other two academies quite often. Your other point is well-taken.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
